'Subtle and intricate acoustic guitar' - Rock n' Reel

'Brave and Imaginative' - Froots

'Connoisseurs will know of excellent guitarist David Newey'... - Netrhythms.com

David Newey is a guitarist, songwriter, singer and producer who has just moved to Sheffield (and is enjoying himself very much). David currently spends his time playing solo, with American fiddle singer Christi Andropolis, with the group Rubus, and touring with legendary fiddle player and singer Tom McConville.

David's songwriting encompasses the personal, and the political, drawing on influences from far and near. Tom Robinson called his debut album 'Unique and austere - brilliantly original songwriting'.

David is to be seen touring in various guises - dates on this site and his website. Please pop in and see him! His latest offering is with Rubus on Wild Goose records, released via Proper this month and available in shops and play.com or amazon.com. David's first album - A List of Names - is now available on I-tunes! A List Of Names

Just so you know: I support Amnesty International wholeheartedly. For more about their work. visit www.amnesty.org.uk. Please visit some of the friends below- they all do great work. I play a lovely Moon dreadnought guitar which I'm happy to talk about as it's very nice. Pics on here are from a mix of sources but predominantly Todd Cliff, a great friend from Boston, Massachusetts - please check him out if you're in the area and need photos taken!

(please see my blog):
TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

Where traditions are not so rare;
    Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
    Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

The longish pedestrian malls;
    The remnants of defensive walls;
Historic buildings are a gauge
    Of the respect for heritage.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
    Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
    Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

Rivers in parts licked by trees,
    Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
    Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

Fine churches headed at Durham;
    Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
    Masonry behind masonry.

And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN

Once drove an old sedan, up north,
From a place in Sydney to Cairns;
Then to Kuranda I went forth,
By train, to look without set plans.

I browsed through the trendy market,
With fresh fruits of tropical kind;
Walked to the creek through lush thicket -
Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.

I dined in a scenic cafe;
Then, outside, as I wrote for yen,
Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey,
You go walkabout with your pen.”

Request or question, I don’t know -
Assured voices, elderly men.
That’s now several years ago,
And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
