I started out on drum kit playing heavy metal, moved to progressive rock and then discovered jazz in college. I enjoy all types of well written and performed music. Some of my favorite drummers are Steve Gadd, Brian Blade, Jim Keltner, Harvey Mason, Will Kennedy, Alex Acuna and Peter Erskin. I'm as happy playing a simple pop tune as I am playing a jazz or latin tune. I love the african drumming, solo CD and drum book by Mohktar Samba. My favorite band is XTC.
Sounds Like
Someone hitting things with sticks (and sometimes hands) in a musical way.
I was born in San Francisco raised in LA. I started playing orchestral percussion in 4th grade and fell in love with the drum set late in High School. Early in College I got a gig at Knott's Berry Farm and for years did shows playing every kind of music imaginable. I worked for Bill Medley doing "Rock Around The Clock Shows" and then auditioned for British pop star Thomas Dolby and ended up doing three records with him and touring all over the world. I decided to stop doing roadwork to be at home with the family so I freelanced around LA playing countless jingles, recording projects and TV and movie work. When the kids were a bit older I started doing some roadwork again with smooth jazz guitarist Peter White, and Maranatha Music Worship Leader Workshops. I toured and recorded two CD's with keyboardist Scott Wilkie and then got the gig as the pit drummer for the production of The Lion King at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles. I did that for over two years and 900 shows. After Lion King I recorded and toured with Christian artist Fernando Ortega and toured with Sara Groves and Bebo Norman. I currently play for the Harvest Worship Band (Greg Laurie's ministry) and Franklin Graham Festivals all over the world as well as freelancing around LA doing whatever I can to make a living hitting things with sticks. I recently started recording at home for different artists. Contact me if you want affordable drum and percussion tracks for your songs.
Hi Dave, Wanted to give you an update on what I've been doing. I still work as drum tech when shows come into town. But recently I auditioned for a Christian Metal band that does some touring in the summer. I was up against 4 other drummers (older than me) and I got the gig. would love to work with you again if you get back in our area. Nate
Yo, mon frere... How was Belfast? Did you see Philip? Did you get to see the Galgorm Manor? Did you hear the tortured pigs at night? Did you eat anything spotted?
Hey David When are you going to be in the Baltimore area again? You know you got a tech here waiting! I really enjoy working with you. Check out my space, Nate
