DAVID PACK BIOGRAPHY
Along with being former singer-songwriter for the legendary rock group Ambrosia, David Pack has established himself as a respected recording artist, Grammy winning record producer, hit songwriter, and music director/conductor of major special events, including both of President Clinton's Arkansas Ball Inaugural Galas, Aids Project L.A. Commitment to Live VI Concert featuring Barbra Streisand, Elton John, and Billy Joel; Oprah Winfrey's Volunteer Summit with George H.W. Bush, President Clinton, President Carter, Colin Powell, and other dignitaries.
His collected works have sold over 40 million units worldwide. His two principal musical mentors for over 25 years are friends Quincy Jones and the late Leonard Bernstein.
David's voice and songwriting skills have graced worldwide radio for over twenty-five years through his classic 1 hit songs such as "Biggest Part of Me", "How Much I Feel", "You're The Only Woman", ”Holdin On To Yesterday”--all BMI 3 Million Airplay-Grammy nominated songs, along with the 1 gold hit he wrote for General Hospital TV Show's Jack Wagner in the late 80's: "All I Need", at Quincy Jones request (with Glen Ballard & Cliff Magness). He also co-wrote “Our Love” with long-time friend Michael McDonald on Michael’s platinum greatest hits CD, Patti Austin’s mid-80’s top 10 hit “Through The Test of Time”, while singing a duet with Bette Midler on the multi-platinum soundtrack to the movie “Beaches”. And top 10 AC Hit "The Key to You" with long-time friend jazz keyboardist David Benoit.
He has produced & co-produced platinum and gold selling CD's and tracks for artists such as Wynonna (The Other Side) Kenny Loggins (Return To Pooh Corner), Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram (Disney’s Cinderella) Brian McKnight (Disney’s 25th Anniversary) CeCe Winans (His Gift) Patti Austin (The Real Me, Carry On, Handel’s Messiah Soulful Celebration) Andrae Crouch (Tribute), Michael McDonald (Blue Obsession), and David Benoit (Every Step of the Way).
In 1996 he conceived and produced "The Songs of West Side Story" a brilliant tribute to his late friend Leonard Bernstein, re-arranging each song for artists such as Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Selena, Wynonna, Trisha Yearwood, Little Richard, Chic Corea, Phil Collins, TLC, and Michael McDonald. The CD was certified Gold and raised money for Grammy in the Schools and Leonard Bernstein's Education Foundation. Talks are underway for a live production of David’s version of West Side Story in 2008.
In August 2005 David released a new solo CD on Concord Records titled "The Secret of Movin On" featuring special guests such as Ann Wilson (Heart), Steve Perry (Journey) Timothy B. Schmidt (Eagles) and longtime friend jazz legend David Benoit. The CD yielded two top ten national hits, rave reviews from pop and jazz critics—including Jazziz top 5 best CD’s of 2005. In addition, 2007 finds David nominated for “Best International Vocalist 2006” by Canadian Jazz Awards, along with Al Jarreau and Corrine Bailey Rae.
As a favor to nationally syndicated radio star and friend Rick Dees, David has recently written music, sound fx, and jingles for Dees’ new L.A. morning show on Movin 93.9 FM radio.
David works frequently in Nashville, where he is a member of Nashville Songwriters Association, joining them in lobbying on Capitol Hill for digital rights for songwriters. He played his hits for key members of the Senate and House of Representatives, helping to form a new American “songwriter’s caucus”.
He produces special events and performs often for his church, Saddleback in Orange County, Calif. Led by "Purpose Driven Life" book Author/Pastor Rick Warren. David feels that Rick Warren's ministry has focused his life in profound ways and is especially passionate about the launch of Warren's global "P.E.A.C.E. Plan". David says "this church and ministry is what I've been looking for my entire life, and serving them is truly my honor and privilege. My wife Stacey and I encourage everyone to do 40 days of purpose and make the move from success to significance in life"
David is currently finishing his first book and hopes to have it published for release in fall 2008. He is also working on writing music for a Broadway-bound musical that will be workshopped in Summer of '08. He is developing film/tv/and theatrical works that are in various stages of development.
He is also producing a series of concerts for 2008 to benefit Malibu Presbyterian Church that burned down in the Oct 2007 fires.
Beyond Saddleback church, he is committed to volunteer work for charities that include: American Bible Society, Community Teen Outreach, Cystic Fibrosis, United Way, Autism Rocks, American Cancer Society, Leonard Bernstein BETA Fund, Grammy In The Schools, National Institute of Suicidology, Aids Project L.A., Naomi Judd Liver Foundation, Napa Valley Children, and the Atlanta based Rally Foundation for Children with Cancer.
