Jazz composer/saxophonist David Rogers has been compared to John Coltrane for his globally-influenced music (Global Rhythm Magazine)—heard from jazz clubs to Carnegie Hall. Latin rhythms, medieval chorales, and freewheeling improvisation combine in his fresh take on modern jazz. Beautiful composed melodies combine with intricate group interplay and loose, fiery improvisation. Hailing from Missouri, Rogers has lived extensively in Ghana, played for many years on the New York jazz scene, and collaborated with jazz artists like Regina Carter and Craig Taborn, world music masters like Bernard Woma and Dolsi-naa Abubakari Lunna, and innovative chamber orchestra Alarm Will Sound (“The future of classical music!” – The New York Times). He is also a co-founder of Jumbie Records (myspace.com/jumbierecords) and leads the African-fiddle-and-jazz group Imaginary Homeland (myspace.com/imaginaryhomeland) Ken Wessel (guitar) is a versatile, and soulful voice on the jazz guitar, who has worked for years with revolutionary jazz artist Ornette Coleman; has fused jazz and North Indian music working with artists such as V.M. Bhatt, Debashish Bhattacharya, and Badal Roy; and has appeared in 26 countries at major jazz festivals and concert halls. Chris Lightcap (acoustic bass) is a lyrical and rhythmically-charged bass player, known for bridging the worlds of mainstream and avant garde jazz. He has toured and recorded with a wide array of jazz stars including violinist Regina Carter, Tom Harrell, Marc Ribot, Craig Taborn, and Joe Morris. His own CD Lay Up was called “one of the year’s winners” by the New York Times. Sylvain Leroux (flute, alto saxophone) is a versatile and innovative wind player specializing in jazz flute, alto saxophone, and the Fulani flute of West Africa, the tambin. He brings a totally unique approach to improvising that owes as much to African griots as to post-bop and free jazz improvisers. Sylvain leads the Fula Flute Ensemble and the African Jazz group SOURCE. Rob Garcia (drum set) is a thrilling and dynamic drummer whose career spans the entire spectrum of jazz, from Woody Allen's New Orleans band to Joseph Jarman’s avant-garde. His group Sangha has just released their first CD “Heart’s Fire.” Rob has studied holistic healing and describes his creative aim in music's healing power, "music can go beyond the intellect and touch people on a very deep level."
