so good to hear from you, man! I met Herb yesterday and we hung out at Jack's - he's a jewel of a guy. so glad he's there with you. sending you peace, light and many blessings. i hope this message gets to you. you are in my prayers.
It's an honor to be included in David's ever expanding circle of friends. Now I find "Twilight Eyes" at the top of the play list ... way cool. When we finished a song, he'd always say, "You never know where a song will go!" I miss him 'til I pick up my ol' Gibson, then he's right here with me. Peace, Herb McCullough
I knew David in high school and we were surfing buddies. He was an awesome surfer and was one of the first surfers in Galveston to switch from a long board to one of the new short boards in the late 60's. We'd ride to the beach in his 1960's Ford Falcon station wagon and sing Rocky Raccoon from the new Beatles "White Album", because his AM radio was dead. David lost his Mom to cancer in high school and it really rocked his world. He quit school and spent his time surfing, fishing, listening to music and reading philosophy. David was a kind hearted, peaceful person. I remember him playing the harmonica (Room to Move by John Mayall). The stringed instruments must have come later. I went off to college and we seldom saw each other after that. I'm glad so many people have come to appreciate David. He was like a brother when we were teens. Peace. David has a strong spirit and I remember him as an archetypal friend and teacher, his legacy is legendary already, and his mystical musical connection and kind ways will not be forgotten. David exuded a calm mystery and dignity, never a cross word, always harmonious and funny too.

Every single day I think of David and what he did for me, his guidance, his encouragement and especially that wonderful spirit. David's guidance was really the linchpin in motivating me to start recording. There aren't many people in a person's life who have such a profound effect that it really changes you. David truly changed mine, in fact, knowing him altered my destiny and the direction I was headed.
David, people are loving that Blackberry Jam we made. You put the spirit in that song. Thank you for everything!
yes it's amazing how people are still reeling from the shock of David's passing . . there are a core group of us (as well as the great work done by the academia) dedicated to keeping his music and memory alive. Please keep in touch with your comments, photos and music jan pulsford
My god! i just found out this weekend at Telluride Bluegrass that Dave passed away. Usually I would find Dave at the Villager Tavern, alone or with others, on a Saturday afternoon or evening, and I would join him at the bar and together we would chat, and drink, and watch the Antique Roadshow. He wrote me a poem once on a Villager coaster. He had one of the best laughs ever! His clothes were amish-made. He was a badass on that dulcimer. It's been 8 years since I lived in Nashville, but I remember Dave fondly and vividly, as if I just left him with a hug and kiss at the bar. Peace to you Dave wherever you are!!!!!!!
David was a great friend and our colleague for more than 20 years. We miss him every day, and we thank you for working to keep David's music as important today as it was before his passing. Keep up the great work!

Hey David. Thanks for the add. I know your playing form a CD I've bought with you and Butch Baldassari. Tha'ts a pretty one. And another reason I have asked you to be friends is I bought myself a dulcimer right before christmas. I love the sound of it, and I'm learning, though I'm mostly a guitar and mandolin man.
David, miss you a lot. I remember you once told me to just do my own thing on this instrument. Thanks so much for that. It made all the difference. Sending you peace & joy, dear friend! - Joni
