  • Bio

Somewhere along the highways between Nashville and his hometown of Detroit, David Shelby always knew there was a new brand of country music waiting to be born. He found the sound he was looking for by combining the soulful grittiness and rock on sensibilities of the music born in the Motor City with the lyrical precision and production polish of his adopted home of Nashville. He calls it Rust Belt Country. Ever since he can remember country music has always been a major part of his life. "When you're born into a proud Polish-Russian family they issue you an accordion and a bowling ball," David states, "My dad taught me to use both. . . It's easier to pick up a split with an accordion." David was soon playing that squeeze-box along with the Garth Brooks and Toby Keith records the country station was spinning in his native Detroit. Detroit! Certainly a part of the rust belt of America and they love their beer cold and their cars hot. They play hard and have a soft spot in that big industrial heart for country music. Once David saw his first country concert, he knew that on stage is where he belonged and set out to combine his love for country music with the energy of his hometown. David definitely isn't your typical country singer; he has a degree in Jazz. He toured internationally with many artists as an ace trumpet slinger while never forgetting his dream of Rust Belt Country. He traded in his trumpet for a microphone and a guitar and began his journey. He has a long list of artists who have influenced his style including Garth Brooks, Chris Ledoux, Big and Rich, Jason Aldean, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, Gary Allen, Keith Urban, and Jeffrey Steele to name a few. Writing from the heart and performing energy packed shows with his band is quickly becoming his trademark. David has earned an incredible reputation as a headliner while also sharing the stage with many of today's top country artists. David's live shows are full of heart and total conviction. His songs reflect his love for Nashville, the history of country music, and his grooves are pure Detroit. Solid songwriting, good humor and depth of feeling all meet up on that rust belt highway. He traveled far and wide to find what he needed...just a microphone, a killer band, and an audience to entertain. David has been making a name for himself in Nashville and has worked with famed industry record producers Ed Seay (Martina Mcbride, Willie Nelson, Blake Shelton), Zavitson Music Group president Russ Zavitson (Billy Ray Cyrus), and Mark Burch (Billy Currington Band). He has recently joined forces with veteran Sony Music Executive Ed Gertler. He currently splits his time between his native Detroit and Nashville, Tennessee while maintaining his blue collar roots by playing non-stop high energy shows to packed houses across the American rust belt. Rust Belt Country...yep, he figured it out.
