Some one trying to figure stuff out in tone and sound and fumbling words...
David Tamaoka is a rare find - listen to any one of his songs, and you will know he is no ordinary singer/songwriter. His songs find the most unusual angles of approach to the most common human themes, and you are instantly transported into his world. David's voice is the perfect vehicle for these soul-baring songs that range from intimate and emotional to hard-hitting acoustic/alternative rock.
"My music is the stuff that flows out of me when my heart is moved. My songs range from heart baring confessions to just plain fun indulgence. I'm inspired by relationship dynamics - tension, joy, love, lust, sorrow, triumph - all that".
- David Tamaoka
David started writing after high school - at first mostly pop punk for the bands he was in and later for acoustic guitar. His old band, Pennylane, was rock alternative influenced by Jimmy Eat World and Juliana Theory.
David has opened for Jason Mraz, 311, New Found Glory, Yellow Card, Underoath, Rise Against, Blink 182, Mae, Hoobastank, Hot Hot Heat, Matt Costa. He has toured Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, and Southern California and performed at the Waikiki Shell, Pipeline Cafe, Maui Arts and Culture Center in addition to many other venues.
In 2006 he won the BMI songwriting contest at the Kauai Music Festival and this led to a flurry of great new songs. We captured many of them in the studio with David on acoustic guitar and we can't wait to share them with you. David Tamaoka's new release coming soon...
