| Influences | As far as the fingerstyle playing goes, my main influences are probably:
Michael Berk, Michael Hedges, Doyle Dykes, Pierre Bensusan, Billy Mclaughlin
As far as the jazz playing goes, it is a long long list. I'll try and be brief (the chances of it happening are slim!):
Guitarists: Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel, Django Reinhardt, Lenny Breau, Charlie Christian, Kenny Burrell, Martin Taylor, Pat Metheny, George Benson + many more
Other instrumentalists and vocalists: Bill Evans, Ella Fitzgerald, Dave Brubeck, Keith Jarrett, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Nat King Cole, Billy Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Ornette Coleman, Stephane Grappelli, Thelonious Monk, Wynton Marsalis + a whole load more
To be honest, this has become far more of a list of artists I enjoy listening to, but I think that they have all influenced me in some way, whether it be to play a certain lick, approach a song in a different way, or whether it be simply to invest so much of my time in jazz! Inspiration is influence afterall.
Aside from Jazz and fingerstyle playing, I absolutely love Flamenco, Bossa Nova, Samba, Salsa, Funk, Blues, Classical and so many other genres.
Like I mentioned above, I'm sure they have all influenced me in some way whether I realise it or not. |
