About me:
David Wannop started booking leading original music talent in 1997 with his first major production featuring RCA recording artist Wanderlust. Yet, his experience began far before that when he was a DJ/MC in high school and college.

Wannop became heavily immersed in the music scene when he was asked to write a steady column for Ticket, Montgomery Newspapers (Northwest of Philadelphia). He has written for Ticket since 1996, interviewing the likes of such artists as Billy Bragg, Hilary Hahn, Jill Sobule, Little Feat, Marcia Ball, The Dixie Hummingbirds, Melanie, Robert Hazard, and Melody Gardot. This job also required Wannop to go through several press kits for acts in the Philadelphia and New York regions. Noticing that some talented up-and-coming acts needed assistance with their own press kits, Wannop endeavored to help with writing their bios and press releases. Acknowledging the gap between where artists performed and where they could most likely find an audience, Wannop started a booking operation that has produced shows at the Tin Angel, Chaplin’s the Music Café, Milkboy Coffee, Fairmount Park, and other respected music sites in Philadelphia. Rock, folk, jazz, bluegrass, rhythm and blues, and bands that defy definition have found great satisfaction with David Wannop Productions. Several dozen acts recognize a David Wannop Production as being a solid, professional and career-building event. Venues and artists of all sorts have inquired about the services of this dynamic personality, host, master of ceremonies, booking agent, manager and concert promoter.

David Wannop graduated from Temple University with a degree in radio, television and film. He is currently a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (the Grammy Organization).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This note should fully explain the guidelines of David Wannop Productions.
How do I become a client?
You must have both artistic and economic value. This means a potential to develop and maintain audience. Every artist should place a high priority on building his/her audience, and he/she should be cognizant of what makes their audience members return to shows. The ability to develop an audience will help you, the venue, other artists sharing the bill, and anyone else involved to thrive. If you have good songs, stage presence, organized presentation, you will have a good chance of becoming a David Wannop Productions client. If you feel you are lacking in one or more of these areas, Wannop Productions can also assist.
What other factors influence my success as a client?
If an act is networking and creating interest on their own it shows that they are serious about a music career. Trying to top one self through writing new songs, improving performance, and maintaining good industry relations is always encouraged.
What are the biggest difficulties with performers playing the circuit?
The beginning steps are always the hardest. It is difficult to make the leap from having family and friends attend your shows to bringing in genuine music fans – meaning, people who know you only for your music. Wannop Productions can help you make this leap plus show you how to deal with media, venues, agents, and other performers.
If David Wannop mentions me in a conversation does that mean he is my representative?
No. Wannop gets asked many questions about draw, ticket sales, work ethics, professionalism, and more. An artist that has a superior career will be honestly spoken of as such. Artists who work well with other acts on stage and back stage, and do what is necessary to make an event a success will be recommended. If the information is positive the match is made.
What about referrals?
Wannop does refer acts. At times he feels another publicist, manager, show producer, or booking agent, would be more suited to that artist. Inquiries about artists that Wannop does not work with will still be followed through. He will try to lead the interested party to the artist or vise versa.
How can I become part of Wannop Productions as an artist?
An artist needs to be willing to put in the work required for promoting a show and selling tickets. You can contact David Wannop here and he can provide you with information about sending a press kit.
Who works directly with Wannop Productions?
That is a mutual decision between the act and Wannop Productions. The performer must make a commitment to improve on stage, in the studio, with press and media relations, and be a good listener. Wannop can only instruct those who are willing to learn. He has gotten acts onto radio, television, in magazines, newspapers, and other modern media. Contracts and agreements vary from artist to artist. It all must be negotiated so that all participants are satisfied.
Does David Wannop introduce musicians to contacts directly?
He has been known to take performers to National Recording Academy events, bring musicians backstage to meet notable artists, suggest studios and producers, and link acts with media and publicity agents outside of DWP.
Is David Wannop a performer himself?
Yes. He can perform as host or master-of-ceremonies for various events. He often hosts his own concerts, and is also a poet, actor, and a mediocre dumbek player.
Who I'd like to meet:
Princesses and angels...
David --
Hope you enjoy getting out to see some local music. If you stop by one of my nights, please introduce yourself. I look forward to meeting you.
PS. my involvement as a mover & shaker in Philly rock scene was over by the time you started writing (1998). I used to own the Troc & The Khyber Pass during the late '80s through 1996 -- best know as the "grunge" era, although I worked with just about about every up & comer in many genre's back then. I recently moved back to Philly, waking up in my new digs for the first time on election day morning this past November. It was a new day in my life, and I also knew it would be a brand new day for America. So I'm back and enjoying working with the talented & those-that-try local bands.
