I am a freelance writer and graphic designer from Sacramento, CA. My second book is out in stores now, please go race down to your local bookstore and purchase it. Maybe ride your bike there, because it will get you in the mood for the book.
This book is titled (once again, not by me) "The NonCyclist's Guide to the Century and Other Road Races". Despite the title it is a fun book about all things cycling. I tackled a Century Ride, but more than that I saw the world in a totally different way because I was on the back of a bike (unfortunately I was on the back of a bike wearing padded spandex shorts, but not all journeys can be pretty, let's just put that out there).
My first book is also still available. It's titled "The NonRunner's Marathon Guide for Women". I wrote everything in the book, except the title. And because of that title you probably don't need much further explanation of what the book is about. Basically I decided to train for a marathon awhile back, despite the fact that I am ridiculously lazy. I did it as a fundraiser for the Stroke Association, which meant people gave me money, which meant I might have to give them the money back if I didn't finish. Which is why I finished.
My road to marathon glory was long and lined the entire way with cursing and unfortunate spandexed shorts. Now I have taken all that I learned on that miserable journey and written a book to help other couch potatoes get off their butts and train for a marathon. It's a fun book as well as pretty informative. If you or someone you know is looking to get off their recliner and run in circles for a few months you can order the book through my website here.
In early 2007 I went on a 10 week book tour that toured me all over this great nation of ours. I went from Sacramento to New Orleans (with a lot of criss-crossing in between) and raised money for NOLA recovery efforts in the process. I ended the book tour/world saving effort with a two week volunteer trip to New Orleans. Me and a large group of people spent a little time trying to help New Orleans rebuild. We also did our best to eat at every single restaurant in New Orleans, you know, to stimulate the economy... There is no rule that we can't have fun while trying to save the world.
