Dawn Raid was started in1996 by Danny Brotha D Leaosavaii & Andy YDNA Murnane who meet at business school in Otara, Auckland .
Brotha D was part of the Fuemana Family Movement ( OMC, UPR Records) and was a member of the group Lost Tribe who had a Top 20 hit at the time Summa in da winter.
The music business is a tough industry and for his first attempt at it Brotha D made no money from the experience & felt like he needed to approach it from a different angle, so using the ideas learnt at business school the two friends decided to make an Independent record label that was artist focused, Dawn Raid Entertainment was born.
Funding for the project was zero ( the 2 friends were sharing a garage in Otara at the time) and we needed to find away to fund our recording sessions, so Andy had the idea of selling Branded T-shirts with funny Polynesian slogans on them at the local Markets.
The first weeks turnover was $400.00 in 1998 and the boys were away, 2 years and a lots of T-shirts later Dawn Raid released its first record in1999 Southside Story and sold it directly to stores themselves.
To cut a long story short the clothing empire expanded from the markets into our own Dawn Raid Street wear store, Barber shop, Recording Studio, Graphics & Web design Studio, Clothing Factory & Music Education School as well as strong catalogue of Hip Hop and R & B music.
The Artists developed through the label such as Deceptikonz, Mareko, Savage, Aaradhna & Adeaze have become Gold & Platinum selling stars locally and have began establishing links in overseas territories.The labels first release in America was in the last quarter 0f 2003 with Hip Hop artist MAREKO.
Dawn Raid Entertainment is recognised on an National & International level as young entrepreneurs that are setting the standard for aspiring Music & Business people a like.
From humble beginnings of $400.00 the first week the Dawn Raid is the biggest Hip hop/urban entertainment company in the Southern Hemisphere.
