DAWN ROBINSON -the funky bio-
Dawn Robinson has sung and performed her way ahead of the pack. She has managed to stand out from her former projects, the massive entertainment dynasty “En Vogue”, the all-star Grammy nominated line up of Lucy Pearl, & several platinum & multi platinum soundtrack contributions from Eddie Murphy’s “LIFE” to his equally impressive blockbuster “Dr. Doolittle”. Always looking to explore music’s vast wilderness of creativity, Dawn has moved out on her own as a solo artist. Much like the great Tina Turner, she knows where the real action is and has taken control of her star power to continue her journey towards legendary status. What does a future Rock & Roll Hall of Famer look like? Just check out Dawn Robinson.
Growing up with musical influences such as The Beatles, Sly and the Family Stone, The Carpenters, Janis Joplin, Earth Wind & Fire and many others, Dawn Robinson is musically well rounded. In 1989 Dawn auditioned for what would become one of the greatest R&B groups ever. As a matter of fact, in 2000 Rolling Stone proclaimed En Vogue as one of the top 5 most important female groups in the HISTORY of modern r & b music. As the lead singer on most of the groups hits Dawn soon would become the most visible in the iconic quartet. Selling over 28 million records world wide En Vogue had hits such as “Hold On” “Free Your Mind” “Giving Him Something He Can Feel” and “Don’t Let Go”. After nine years with EnVogue, Dawn got a call from her childhood friend from the Bay Area, Raphael Saadiq of Tony Toni Tone’. Saadiq made her an offer she couldn’t refuse after which she promptly turned down a deal with RCA Records to lead the trio, Lucy Pearl. Constantly evolving, Dawn, yet again had reinvented herself and was ready to soar to higher heights but after heartbreakingly similar results to her experiences in En Vogue left her financially uncompensated for her contributions to the 2 top 40 hits AND the Grammy nomination, Dawn found it was time to take her act solo.
With almost 20 years of worldwide hit making, a legitimate argument at proclaiming herself one of the most recognized voices in history, 5 Grammy nominations, 15 MTV Video Music Awards, a Sammy Davis Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award, 4 American Music Awards, countless NAACP Image Awards, 12 Soul Train Awards, & the business savvy of an entrepreneur holding the patent to the light bulb, Dawn is now poised to make a comeback that will rival & bring to mind the successes of Tina Turner & Mariah Carey! No doubt if the world were to get two words of advice that would best sum up Dawn’s reentry onto the musical landscape of today, those two words would certainly be “GET READY”!
Dawn, I cannot wait to see you and the girls this Friday at Greensboro...for the first time I'm finally going to be able to see a live En Vogue concert! I have been dreaming of this since I was 5 years old!:)
What Up People? My Homie D.R. ask me to make this post in reply to her "Burger and Steak post"
So I was telling her that my father and mother just celebrated their 50TH anniversary this year. they are truly a testament to both marriage and family. There are 7 of us kids and we're all grounded. My parents have taught me it's all about the friendship, consideration, communication, and love. Not all the selfish things we seem to put fisrt which is how I personally think is how we get those disgruntle Baby fathers and Mothers. Lets get it together people. we have new generations to bring up and in these times of crises we're gonna need to work together to get thru them as families first then as friends and neighbors.
It's no secret that you are one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE women Dawn. I do not write this as a fanatic who has an agenda, if anything I write this as a person who respects you as a strong woman who happens to be a singer of music I love. There is no denying that you have talent, that is apparent in everything you do. You walk it, you breathe it, you sing it. I have heart and appreciation for strong women, for my mother is a strong woman who I adore. This is not meant to be some preachy message you have recieved a thousand times before, but a "Get your head up, smile and be proud of yourself and all your imperfections", for it is those imperfections that make you perfect! I know people who know you Dawn and there has NEVER been doubt that you are hugely underappreciated, so claim your turf back! You have heart and you demonstrate that through evreything you do. Girl, make that music that puts you back on the charts and that, to me, to US, will be a gift, lol. I still have yet to see you perform and I wait impatiently. Much Love, Randy
Ms. Dawn.. Just checking on you as I always do. Praying your October is full of unconditional loving of SELF! Kick back your heels, continue to thank God for your blessings and know you are on the path HE has put you on for many reasons. You are a beautiful woman of strength which I continue to feel through your words always! I appreciate you sharing more than you could possibly know!
Hey Dawn! Just dropping by to show you some love and see how you were doing!! I hope you are having a great weekend!! As always, I'm praying for you even though I don't know you personally! Sometimes life brings sunshine. Sometimes life brings pain but God sends us umbrellas to shield us from the pain because he doesn't want us to drown. Love you Dawn! But not as much as God does!
James 2:1, 5-7 says. “My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism. Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong? Have a Bless Weekend, Your Brother In Christ, Danny
