I began to experiment with my father's reel-to-reel and a broken keyboard, salvaged from a faded disco. In the early 90's, I set my roots in live music, playing guitar with assorted bands including The Naked Trolls (circa 1994), The Buttermilk Five (circa 1997), and Alice Blue (voted Best Portland Band 2002 by the Willamette Week Best Of).
I discovered electronic music in college, and began to write and perform electronic based compositions. Eventually, I received a scholarship in Music Composition and was the Production and General Manager for my college radio station. I graduated from Whitworth College in 1998 with a BS in Computer Science, and 2 minors: one in Mathematics, and the other in Music.
After college, I co-opened a dance club in Spokane WA in 2000, while performing as a DJ (vinyl folks!) both underground and on the club circuit. I worked as an audio engineer and video editor for a professional post-production studio for 3 years after college, totally immersed in the production environment. I loved it.
I had always missed my home town of Portland OR, so I returned in 2001 in search of a bigger creative market. I freelanced for a year or so as a media designer, meanwhile honing my graphic design chops. I reconnected with a high school buddy who was producing films, and we began Resonance Productions, a video/film production company. He handled the visuals, and I made sure it sounded sweet.
In 2002, I was hired by a custom golf club retailer to take over the graphic design and redesign their web site. Over the course of the 3 years I was there, I helped them become the 1 online retailer of custom golf clubs. I don't play golf.
I wrote and recorded a musical score for a 2005 short film called The Leeward Tide (www.leewardtide.com). It has played in about 30 film festivals worldwide, as well as on Comcast OnDemand. The score won "Best Music" at the Foursite Film Festival.
An intense study of graphic design, web technology, and media production over the last 5 years allowed me to launch Dayn W Creative (www.daynw.com) in Portland in 2005. My wife left her career as an Interior Designer to join the creative cause. We specialize in graphic design for web and print, especially for creative types. Oh, and we professionally dabble in film and audio/music production. We are passionate about clean, intuitive, and uniquely bold projects. We are design junkies, and we love to share.
