Daysleeper is a band based in Miami, FL, formed by Emery Cowan on keyboards and Alfredo Blume on bass. Since starting their first band circa 1999 and many variations of bands since then, the purposefully named "Daysleeper project" began in the winter of 2008. The music and lyrics of Daysleeper have a distinctive simplicity that comes from the culmination of Emery and Alfredo's collaborations throughout the years. After reuniting once again for Daysleeper, they felt that it was time to sit down and write and record songs, which has led to them wanting to share their music with others through live shows, and as such, the two were joined by Will Roman on drums and Chris Cropper playing accompanying bass tracks. This remarkable collaboration has led to several live performances and numerous accolades locally.
Daysleeper has been recently influenced by an array of underground artists who combine ambient and minimalist tones with retro and post-punk sounds. Despite Miami’s erratic music scene, Daysleeper has found a niche outside of the dance/club surroundings and has gravitated to an emerging and yet nebulous indie movement. Daysleeper thrives in the obscurity of its music, intertwined with an array of oblique and metaphorical lyrics; tracks commonly shift in rhythm and are accompanied by unique and nonconventional song structures and sounds. Blending its past and current styles ranging from shoegaze to ambient to post-punk rock, Daysleeper is redefining rock music by combining melodic bass lines with analog effects, classical piano, synthesizers, and post-punk drumming. Daysleeper strives to be innovative while maintaining originality and simplicity - creating music with substance.
