Sounds Like
D. Brown has been compared to Woody Guthrie, Lou Reed, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, David Byrne, Keller Williams, and many other singer-songwriters with the emphasis on the lyrics and stylistic voicing. His guitar playing ranges from heavy rhythmic pounding to light airy picking. The band rages away as a rock n roll, groovy mix of so many influences and styles. Songs remind people of old school country to blues rock to jam band to...even Devo, all on the same night. With lead bass sometimes, lead drums the next, you never know what might occur, but the band always leaves the audience rockin out for more. A great sound that catches the ear and makes the body groove without effort. A class act with depth in both lyrics and sound. If you ever get the chance to see them, check this band out, a rare ensemble of ageless talent.
Original is often overused, but D Brown Fisher is just that. He is the real Texas Folkin' Rocker. Breaking ground as a soloist in 2004, his heavy voicing and powerhouse vocals mixed with a high range and characteristic style, dubbed ‘Gospedelic Testimonial’ is backed by acoustic, rockin’ out, guitar. A poet gone to the dark side of lyrics and self-taught instrumentalist, his strange stylings and heavy rhythms catch the ear. From rock n roll to soul, country to funky, the old and the new, D Brown fuses the music we all grew up on, with himself. Always looking for the roots of styles to weave and warp into a fabric of sound, D Brown Fisher throws it down, kicks it around, and tears up the town with a band of incredible rock n roll veterans.
As a multi-media artist and music producer, D Brown takes a different musical approach than most, but has already gained acclaim in just a few short years of performing. He has produced with some very talented people including Carolyn Wonderland, Matt Hubbard, Wayne Sutton, Michael Hale and more. As a dedicated artist, D Brown was pushed towards the stage; the time is ready for his songs. As a soloist, D Brown is more expressive in guitar and vocals, opening up the songs and interacting with his audience and the mood of the room. Since debuting in Amsterdam in November 2004, he has consistently performed around Austin and Houston. Recording with Matt Hubbard (who produces and engineers for Willie Nelson and performs with daughter Paula Nelson) in January 2005, he decided to form a band. In his band, D Brown throws it down, often playing electric guitar as well. The core of his band includes Speedy Sparks on bass, from Doug Sahm’s Sir Douglas Quintet and Texas Tornadoes, just to name a few. And Michael Hale on drums, who has toured and recorded with David Garza, Patrice Pike, W.C. Clark, and many more. This veteran rhythm section has the ability to follow D Brown in his new directions and give the music that old school sound, no matter the style. A great show to catch; this band rocks out with traditional song arrangements and leaves an audience wanting more. Returning to Amsterdam in 2005, D Brown debuted the band in a four night run, blowing away the audiences as a trio and more, when Matt Hubbard and Wayne Sutton joined the set on keyboards and lead guitar.
Now, D Brown is performing around Texas and in Europe with his annual production - WonderJam in Amsterdam started in 2003. As well, he is in the works on a debut release for 2008, and is in preparation for international touring. He says he will always created music in Texas but feels a strong need to bring a voice of rhyme and reason from the states to the other parts of this world, especially if they are only hearing the powers-that-be speak for us. Please check out the website for the full scoop on all his music, writings, artwork, productions and upcoming gigs…thanks!
