“Savage Skulls” is the first new entity to emerge from Richard Sen And Neil Beatnik’s Padded Cell in over a year and represents the start of a devilish new chapter in their sordid career, a taste of what is coming on their “Night Must Fall” (DCR72) album due in May 2008.
Following on from their triptych of 12” releases for DC Recordings - 2005’s “Signal Failure” (DCR64), 2006’s “Are You Anywhere?” (DCR67), and 2007’s “Moon Menace” (DCR76), “Savage Skulls” is a powerful dose of 80’s New York style electro funk that will possess listeners of all persuasions.
On the flipside we are astounded to be able to present a remix by DC label overlord DEPTH CHARGE. This is the first appearance made by the shadowy J. Saul Kane in his Depth Charge guise since 2004’s “Hi Voltage Man” (DC51), a lengthy hiatus in which we can but speculate upon his clandestine activities, only that we are sure of one thing – his sonic powers are undiminished as evidenced by this ferocious scramble of electro fury, a reworking of “Triple X Syndrome” which is a forthcoming track that features on the “Night Must Fall” album and features vocals from Chloe, singer from London punk funk band Battant (Kill The Dj).
Padded Cell are playing selected live dates throughout April and May. For details go to www.dcrecording.com

It has been a lengthy hiatus since Kelpe's last offerings: 2005's "Sunburnt Eyelids" (DCR63) and 2004's acclaimed "Sea Inside Body" album (DC53) which preceded it (described by The Wire Magazine as "One of the most engrossing listens in recent electronic music").
On hearing "Ex-Aquarium" it becomes clear what he has been doing in this time. Countless live performances all over the world as well as numerous explorations into the sonic potential of table tennis have clearly drawn him towards increased instrumentation with Mckeown himself getting behind the drum kit to beat out the rhythm as his new wave of sonic mutations emerge triumphantly from the whitewater.
"Shipwreck Glue" oozes and gripes like a writhing leviathan amidst a din of cowbells and ping pong staccatos. "Whirlwound" swaggers and swells like a rhythmic ocean overture; "Bread Machine Bred" sounds like a whirring automaton making strange maneuvers in the deep. Previous comparisons to the likes of Fourtet, Dabrye, Boards Of Canada will be left in the wake of this sterling new material.

The Emperor Machine begins a new chapter with this double-headed thriller, in some ways a manifest statement of the sordid pleasures that lie in wait for the devoted disconauts of the world in 2008.
Upon hearing the relentless throbbing of "Slap On" the listener will immediately know to what we refer. This is a polyrhythmic affair that deals in endless climax; synths relentlessly building before throwing the listener sideways into a vortex of stylish analogue shapes.
On the flipside "Gang Bang" will soothe and relieve after such orgiastic fury. A smooth blend of discofied punk-funk informs the warm bass and drums that drive this groove; analogical chatter gradually swarming and swelling, joined by hi hats, cowbells and shifting melodies until the music has fully taken possession of the listener's pelvis, leaving the mind free to relax and watch the club melt.

A cryptically told tale of nocturnal trans-gender research, the sordid pop genius that is "No Sale No I.D." was one of the most popular tracks to be found on The Emperor Machine's "Vertical Tones And Horizontal Noise" album (DCR75) and accordingly it has been singled out for a rework by SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO.
Fresh from the success of their "Attack Decay Sustain Release" album, this notorious duo have taken the original and sharpened up all the edges, creating spikes and crunch where once there was ooze, setting the analogue shapes of the original against a frenetic digital electro template that swarms, swells and intermittently bursts inside the mind of the listener; a reworking that truly penetrates the dancefloor and those who writhe upon it!
