NOTES FROM THE UNDERGROUND
Photobucket Ken Barnes of USA Today had this to say about The Deadbeat Poets "Notes From the Underground": "....it captivated me - terrific, tuneful rock songs." August 31, 2007

USA Today’s Playlist for the week of September 4, 2007 includes: Ernest T, Deadbeat Poets: Midwest band featuring a member of power-pop cult heroes Blue Ash creates the perfect, early-Who-echoing (I’m a Boy, most closely) guitar-pop jangler.

".....if you think 1966 was the best-ever year for rock music, then this is also an essential purchase"..........Kent Benjamin-Pop Culture Press

".....Dear Wes Anderson, here we are.".... Paul Ford-The Morning News

".....Underground is a living, breathing exemplar of power-pop’s most enduring qualities"...... Greg Beets-The Austin Chronicle

"......The Deadbeat Poets can trace their lineage to a long list of garage-punks, but there’s also plenty of Stones and Beatles running through the power-pop grooves of their debut album, Notes From The Underground.".....Eddie Fleisher-Cleveland Scene

".....Yes, just this: I like this album Very, VERY much. ’Cause I do believe these here Poets, steeped in their tight fisted and pant-legged CBGB revelry, sound to me just as I imagine the Eighties onward may have-SHOULD have had, say, dear dead Stiv had been a chart-topper as opposed to the Cars or Huey Lewis........Well, we can still daydream, can’t we?".......Gary Pig Gold-Rock Beat International

"... one great cd from Flying Saucers to Nothing." Christopher Duda-SugarBuzz Magazine

"....The band is as spry and lively as any half it’s age, though-with songs such as "The Green Man" and "A Funny Little Feeling" bouyed by sharp hooks and topnotch songwriting."...........The Big Takeover

"... marries classic power pop to a garage/punk aesthetic that’s both contemporary and Nuggets-worthy. Highlights include the twisty, twangy shuffle-rocker “The Green Man,” the Small Faces-styled psych-pop of “The Goody Wagon” and the rousing, rumbling, New York Dolls-like “The Truth About Flying Saucers.” Plus, you gotta love a band that titles a song “The Stiv Bators Ghost Tour”: Secich was part of the Dead Boys vocalist’s solo band, and the tune’s a memorably heartfelt tribute to a fallen comrade".......Fred Mills-Harp Magazine

"... it’s a super-colossal tasty treat - like an Everlasting Gobstopper for your ears, with layer after layer of flavor slowly revealed" Peter Chakerian-Cool Cleveland

"... their debut CD, Notes From The Underground, gathered the debris of a combined century-plus of music-making to create a disc that’s both contemporary and retro, with echoes of ’60s pop, garage and psychedelic rock, ’70s punk and ’80s new wave, processed through a punchy up-to-date sound." Anastasia Pantsios-Cleveland Free Times

"... this is a great album that fits like an old favorite pair of jeans" Powerpopaholic

   About The Deadbeat Poets
The Deadbeat Poets were formed in Youngstown, Ohio in the summer of 2006. The band consists of veteran Ohio musicians with eclectic credentials: Frank Secich (Blue Ash, Club Wow, Stiv Bators Band), Terry Hartman (Backdoor Men, Napoleon In Rags, Terry & The Tornadoes), Pete Drivere (Infidels, Pretty Demons) and John Koury (Infidels, Slackjaw). Their debut album (which was recorded over the first few months of 2007 at Youngstown’s Ampreon Recorder) is now available on Pop Detective Records in America & in Japan on Vivid Sound Records. Also, making guest appearances on the album are Bill "Cupid" Bartolin on guitar and Chris Leonardi on piano and organ.

Soon, you’ll be able to sit back and relax (pop the top and set the sail) as the Deadbeat Poets take you on a timely journey. To such places.... romantic places like Beaver Falls (via Mahoningtown) you’ll go. You’ll travel to the exotic northside of Youngstown, Cleveland, the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, Toronto, Geneva-On-The-Lake, New York, LA, London, the far reaches of outer space, Paris, Mt. Pilot, The Bering Sea, St. Paul and of course Buffalo, NY. You’ll meet fun lovin’, sex-crazed aliens in "The Truth About Flying Saucers". You’ll hear the tale of the legendary Ray Robinson who once roamed the dark, back-country roads of Western, PA in "The Green Man". You’ll encounter semi-romantic mountain men and their passions in "Ernest T" and ride along with Stiv Bators as he once terrorized the western world in "The Stiv Bators Ghost Tour". You’ll find out the connection between Ernest Hemmingway and Gertrude Stein and French bidets in "Where Was I When I Needed Me?". You’ll raise glasses and bottles with the lads in "No Island Like The Mind, No Ship Like Beer" and be sadly disappointed by gangsters and thieves as "The Goody Wagon" never arrives. If floating in a psychedelic flutter is your inclination then "What Part Of Cognitive Dissonance Don’t You Understand?" will probably be your cup of tea. Then again, you may find that after all of this .....well that "It’s Nothing" to you. Then again, you may start getting "A Funny Little Feeling" that you will enjoy the Deadbeat Poets.
