Deadbeats was started in 2004 with the release of our first (self-titled) album, First Words. The album sold well and climbed up the national campus/community charts, peaking at number 5. Realizing our opportunity, and taking advantage of the collective experience of our well seasoned roster, Deadbeats released a vinyl in June of 2005 that received rave reviews in Online and print sources, it also charted in top 10's across the country. This brings us to November 16th, 2005, when Deadbeats dropped a bombshell on the Canadian hiphop scene with the release of Halifax legend Jorun's 10th & last compilation, "Joruns way".. It was at this point that we seriously started to build our Media and marketing department so we could promote our own releases effectively. This album entirely marketed and promoted by deadbeats climbed into the national charts for 6 weeks peaking at 3.The album sold copies across the world landing us our first distribution deal with Phonographique. Reviews and interviews were also appearing in online and print sources across the globe.
After watching Jorun make several compilations Sean One decided to produce his own, "Full of It". It was released in early 2007 and features solo production from Sean One and guest MC's from across Canada. It was given the spotlight for over 6 months and reached number 1 spots on both Earshot and Chartattack's national charting system.
In 2007 the Anti-Mixtape movement 7 inch vinyl EP was released with 2 music videos to promote the forthcoming First Words sophomore lp titled "Cheaters" schedueled to drop in 2008 with guest appearances by Buck 65, Ghettosocks, Philmost the Soulman, Monark and much more.
Dead-beats is currently is being run by Sean One and Jorun Bombay.
Check for them individually in our top friends list.
We are an 'independant' label. We produce our own LP's, make our own beats, write our own rhymes, DeeJay, dig for our own records, do our own graphic design artwork for our cd covers and 7" EP's, we do our own in-house mastering and shoot & edit our own videos at dead-beats. We pretty much do everything in-house.
