as you read between enemy lines
that I think of you every day.
Will you remember my name
after they give you your orders?
will you hear my guilty heart
through your camouflage?
When you ship out this summer
remember the summer before
when the sun blazed for us
and us alone?
your smooth warm smile
glimmering in the Bellagio fountains
when we held our hands like children
we knew we were all that mattered.

Will you forget all our giggles and dreams
to learn your steel and lead
maneuvers and motives
in a desert I'll never see?
