Why isn't Drake Lee Morton uploading two three four five six nuggets of pure happiness for you to rub your slimy noses in, you ask?!
Well, while certain songs should be listened to on their own, I am currently (and, on some level, always have been) interested in writing songs that function as part of an overall project, revolving around a specific theme.. And I don't feel comfortable letting people hear songs that contribute to that particular project before the whole project is complete.. It's not right, dammit!!
In fact, this is why I haven't been to this place in so long, my original idea was to finish all the projects I had in my head, then release them online fortnightly.. Every two weeks, I was going to design and code a new layout for the page, get all the mixing and artwork and stuff ready for the project, then release a nice little zip folder for free downloads and that.. I may have written a little blog too, detailing the ideas and process that went into each album.. I was even gonna rope Alex into helping me with/doing all of that stuff, for crying out loud!!
But then I encountered a problem..
Because I listen to an extremely wide variety of music, inspiration floods from everywhere.. I could be trying to write for an acoustic project; I'd suddenly buy a Remote Viewer album, or listen to some Múm, and start to record minimalist stuff.. I could begin to record for a new minimalist project; I'd listen to Venetian Snares and want to incorporate breakbeats into it, or listen to some Miles Davis or Coltrane and wish I had some kind of brass instrument to play.. I'd start a project based on gabba-inspired sample-based music, and then I'd decide to buy a few albums by The Timeout Drawer, or get into Tortoise, which would then influence the side of me that longs to compose post-rock soundscapes..
So then I end up with too many projects, and to make matters worse, I believe that every one of them is a good idea, which inevitably leads to me recording for a variety of different projects, and not focusing on one..
I'd love to release all my projects in the way I stated above, but I only want to release them when they're all done, and that will obviously take a whole load of time.. But it may happen, and if it does, I'll track down every single artist on myspace who tried to add me in my 6 month absence, listen to their stuff, and leave them a long, boring comment concerning my feelings about their music.. So, people who added me and I didn't accept, you may have that to deal with in the ever-so-distant future..
Ciao for now!!

Oh, PS, I did finish one project, in the 'faceless dance music' vein that I will explore under the name of Drake Morton.. It's a continuous 30 minute (and 1 second) album of songs comprised of samples, predominantly from Radiohead songs.. It's called '(unauthorised radiohead mixes)', and if I've done everything right, is available for download below..
