Dead Herring's Blurbs |
About me:
We are a DIY show/loft space on the north side of the Williamsburg bridge in Brooklyn. We have shows usually every other weekend. Come. Our shows are almost always $5 and our PA sucks. Dead Herring is Nick, Lizzy, Yony, Nicki, Ben, etc.
we are at:
141 S. 5th st.
Brooklyn, ny 11211
#1E
"the man" stole our backyard. please don't smoke inside. please don't drink outside or the man will get you too.
"Best place to play" - High Places
"Dead Herring is one of those rare, wonderful places where you can see a great, eclectic mix of music, have a cheap drink, and get to hang with some really cool people. The venue has this, “best house party you ever went to” vibe, but the proprietors had a nonchalant professionalism about them, keeping everything running smoothly. Needless to say, we had a great time playing and checking some really good bands.
We can’t wait to get back to see some good shows and hang out." -Macque
"ROQUE BLUFFS, Maine — The stench from piles of dead herring stretching hundreds of yards along the shore of Sanford Cove has forced residents of this coastal community to shut their homes tight.
The fish started washing ashore a week ago, and the Maine Marine Patrol is investigating the cause of the mass fish death.
"We're not used to this," said Vicki Kelley, whose parents own a golf course across the road from the cove. "It makes you want to move."
Lucille Sinford, her mother, said the stink has hurt business.
"Yesterday, our golfers started leaving," Sinford said. "We never have an odor off the clam flats. It's always been so clean."
One family whose house overlooks the cove erected plastic owls on the roof to scare off the hordes of gulls.
The kill hasn't been bad for everyone. Lobstermen who use herring as bait have showed up to load handfuls of free feed into buckets." - Fox News
"“Dead Herring and Woodser are probably my favorite places,” he told me. “The shows are more like parties, with people drinking and hanging out on the roof. It's always crowded, because they only have shows when good bands are coming through. It's not a 'venue' in that they need to have shows to make money.”
No longer are wayward gentrifiers staring longingly at the Williamsburg Bridge from their loft parties, hoping to someday find a good deal on rent in the East Village, Lower East Side or the like for the nightlife. In fact, it seems like many Manhattan residents shun the carnival-like atmosphere and rationalize staying put by leaning on the crutch of convenience.
“The best best shows that I've been to in Brooklyn are the places that you go only once or twice,” continued Kyle. “They don't have a name, and they pop up, then disappear just as quickly - the ones that feel really secret and ephemeral.” - Chris Shott for the New York Observer
