ABOUT THE SONGS ON OUR PROFILE:
ALL SONGS ARE FROM DEAD LAZLO'S PLACE CD "LAZLO FOR LIFE" OUT NOW ON BURNING TREE RECORDS/6122 RECORDINGS (except "Nothin' At All")!
ALL SONGS PRODUCED BY PAUL LUKE.
NOTHIN' AT ALL (Big Drill Car): This track was recorded for the long-awaited upcoming tribute CD to one of California best bands, Big Drill Car. Recorded in two days with Paul at the board once again. The only change on this recorded is the absence of guitarist Ike Robison. Taking his place on the recording was former Jughead's Revenge/Kill*Detail axeman, Joey Rimicci. The CD is to be release in August 2008 on Itchy Korean Records.
UP AGAINST IT: This song was written back in 1999-2000 but was put on the back burner because the band just wasn’t feeling it. In late-2005 when the guys were putting together their list of songs for this CD, Gizz suggested they finally finish up the song. UP AGAINST IT is about “loss” and since Gizz was going through a divorce, he thought he could really do the song justice, which really shows emotionally on this song. WEAKEND: Again, this is another song that was written back in 1999-2000 and put on the ‘to-do list’ because something was missing. Another song about “loss”, this track now shows the true feeling of betrayal as originally intended.
TROUBLE BAND: The music was written for Elvis Presley in the 60’s and was performed on his 1968 Comeback Special. The lyrics, however, were re-written by Gizz and detail the way each member was brought into Dead Lazlo’s Place.
LEFT ME FOR DEAD (English Dogs): Originally written by English Dogs, this was the first song ever performed by OG members, XploStevO and Gizz back in 1989 when they formed their short-lived band, Separate Peace. It was then and there that they met DLP co-founder Chris “XL” Long. When the band was wondering what cover to record for this CD there was no arguing that the lyrics definitely fit into the whole theme that is “Lazlo for Life”. (-written by Sal Cochino-)
We hope you enjoy each of these songs as much as we enjoyed recording them! And remember... The Drunker You Get The Better We Sound!!!!
OK, so here's the deal... Van Nuys 1990: Chris "XL" Long-guitar (ex-Bad Samaritans, Damnation, Glue Gun, Haunted Garage and more) hooks up with Gizz "G.Lo" Lazlo-lead vocals (Kill*Detail [formerly Jughead's Revenge], BadTown Boys, UK Subs, DeRita Sisters, For Sale, Camelboy [from Bremen, Germany] and many more) and Steve "XploStevO" Simpronio-bass (For Sale, Bedlam, Ritalin). In 1995 they get "Flying" Ike Robison-guitar (ex-BadTown Boys, Electric Ferrets), which refuels the band and their sound and in 2007 they get hooked up with Don "Rokken" McCurdy-drums (ex-Twister Naked, Mojo Rib, The Bottom Feeders) and the magic just seems to happen.
During the 17 years of DLP there were other people who came and went like; Luis E. (The Grim, For Sale, Buford, Kill 99), Jeff Yearsley (For Sale), Jeff Edwards (Glue Gun, ifoundgod, 300 Pound Gorilla), John, Paul, Ringo, George (okay, there was never a Ringo or George but that was funny! Sheesh, maybe not!), John Baker (Mad Beat Vision, The Pissing Idiots, 99 Pound Gorilla), Paul Luke (Shutdown, Red Sky Warning, Verses the Sun), Eric King, Todd Guzman (The Electric Ferrets), "Angry" John DiMambro (Agent Orange, Down By Law), Stephan X (Foreign Object, BadTown Boys), Sharif Dumani (Something From Nothing, Buford, The Dining Room Set, The Moon Upstairs) and Dave Perry (Psychedelicatessen, Bad Samaritans, Foreign Object).
The whole idea behind DLP is to play no-bullshit rock and roll with a punk ethic and attitude. Think hard, fast, loud and melodic with a sense of humor. They've played way too many shows to count locally, they've recorded a bunch of CDs and have toured nationally a bunch of times.
Influences, as they've been told are; Motorhead, Doughboys, Leatherface, Snuff, Pegboy, Samiam, Black Flag, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Poison Idea, The Beatles, The Stones, Social D., Sam Kinison and Redd Foxx. Just good-ol' fashion, out-of-control "beer swillin' punk rock 'n' roll" kinda stuff.
Some interesting facts about DLP are; Gizz, who was the original drummer from 1990-1992 was diagnosed with cancer in 1992 and was out of commission for 2 years and when the band reformed in 1994 Gizz permanently switched to lead vocals. They were once introduced to the stage by NBA All-Star (Pistons & Lakers) and TV/Radio personality, John Salley for a "Battle of the Bands" at the Troubadour in 1997. Gizz was shot in the left forearm on Halloween night 1999 in Corpus Christi, Texas while on tour with DLP pulling double-duty as their lead singer AND drummer. They've been approached by Atlantic Records... twice!! They've recorded more albums (CDs) than they've released. They've written over 140 original songs to date and recorded somewhere in the neighborhood of 170 songs (including covers, demos and live album tracks). They've been sponsored by Schecter Guitars, Axis Drum Pedals, Sabian Cymbals, Yoo-hoo Chocolate Drink, Puma Shoes & Clothing, Porn Star Clothing, Choice Snowboards, NLA - No Limit America Clothing, Crime Pay$ Clothing, Allegience Cycles plus a whole bunch of other companies who shall remain nameless for legal reasons but in 17 years they've never been sponsored by the one company they actually promote the most... Budweiser. Hmmmm, strange! They've licensed many songs worldwide to media outlets for television and radio commercials most recently to Snickers (yeah, the candy bar) and an upcoming television game show called "Showdown". MTV's "True Life" featured a DLP tune in an episode and The Discovery Channels "Monster Garage" used a song for a video released on the internet. Check it out at: www.monstergarage.com. They've all hit their 30's long, long, long, long ago. Steve used to have long, flowing, golden hair and so did Ike except his was curly and brown. Don has cut himself shaving more than a few times and actually owns two sets of cymbals. As for Chris, he lives right down the street from... well, just about everyone... maybe even you!!
Hey, glad I could finally see you guys live, you kicked ass! Up Against It sounded amazing, it's a fuckin anthem. I want to see you guys again! And that heinz ketchup shirt was fuckin awesome, lol.
