Mark Pfaltzgraff is the lead singer for Dead Men Singing. Involved with music for his entire life and raised as a “preacher's kid,” Mark heard a lot of sermons on accepting Christ, but it wasn’t until 1980 that he received Christ as his savior. Along with his wife Pat, he started attending church. Instead of listening to rock and roll, Christian music became a part of his life and he dreamed of one day singing Southern Gospel. His dream came true in 2004 when he got together with Phil, Dave, and Warren to sing a number at his church’s Praise Fest and Dead Men Singing was born. Their name is inspired by a sermon preached the Sunday before called Dead Men Walking. Mark loves to sing about Jesus and his hope for everyone is that they too are a “Dead Man Singing” for the Lord!

Phil Waldo is the baritone for Dead Men Singing. He is the Lead Pastor at the Open Bible Church in Boone, Iowa. Raised in a Christian home, Phil has always been involved in church life. He made a personal commitment to Christ at a young age and was called into ministry during his teen years. Originally he thought the call would lead him to the mission field as a pilot, but God led him along until he surrendered to become a pastor. Phil enjoys singing and writing music, as well as playing various instruments. Some of the music that Dead Men Singing performs has been written by him.

David Freeman is the high tenor for Dead Men Singing. He is a construction worker from the Boone area who has a love for children and is the Awana Commander. The youngest of 11 and raised by his brother-in-law and sister, Doug and Ramonia Waldo, Phil’s parents, he’s always been involved in church and made a personal commitment to Christ at the young age of nine. Currently he is on the worship team at Boone Open Bible Church and has been a member of other area ensembles such as Iowa State Singers and Ames Chamber Artist.

Warren Kleinendorst holds down the bass position for Dead Men Singing. He was raised on a farm near Newton, Iowa and was saved at the age of 11 while attending an old-fashioned country Methodist church. He graduated from Iowa State University and has worked construction and driven trucks for over thirty years. Fourteen years of over-the-road trucking provided an environment for intense Bible study and prayer, leaving him with the deep conviction that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only power capable of changing human lives.
