Sobering yet sentimental vocals, gentle brain-piercing guitars and a strangely optimistic melancholy mood forged in fire with heart pounding edginess of a perfectly destructive rhythm section. This is the fulcrum of Dead Scene Celebrity’s debut, an EP length showcase, The Soft Decay.
This is music lover’s music, which sounds effortless at faster tempos, an overly orotund overdose of sonic opinion, not without exceeding exceptional decibel expectation, yet at ease in the midst of rushing high volumes. Like the fast paced groove of the first track: “Didn’t You”, or the smoothly subtle hard-hitting title track. With hints of punk and funk and even a little soul, DSC bleeds the music that inspired them, without pigeonholing them into a specific category. Some of those influences felt on the EP are The Afghan Whigs, The Pixies, and Jane’s Addiction, just to start a never-ending list of artists with integrity. DSC knows good sounds when they make them, and that is evidence enough after experiencing this EP just one time.
