We are motivated to create a canvas that expresses our thoughts and feelings. By integrating our passions for music and imagery we decorate our work with authentic emotion. This project gives us a platform, a vehicle, a freedom to do what we love and become a voice down the hallway of life. An instrument not only for ourselves but also for those who share our vision, our purpose, be it by accident or intent. With eyes wide-open and without any fear, we are with you...........WE ARE DEAD STAYS ALIVE.
Dead Stays Alive, as a project, was never something that was planned, discussed or contrived. It simply materialized, born from two kindred visions with a passion for life within music. Scott Mikell and Tony Allen, friends since high school, were influenced and inspired by a wide variety of music and imagery during their early years. Since the beginning they would engage in the most fervent debates about which new record was better and why, pulling apart each song to it’s core. And they still do. To be in a room with them is to be a part of a discussion of music and culture from the beginning of time it seems. Their dialogue is peppered with insight, humor, the true love of the well-crafted song and spoken with a passion that would make any fan proud.
This rabid curiosity and absolute reverence for music was the fertile ground where the seed for DSA was planted. They have worked to create catalogue of songs that ask the important questions and offer answers that will excite the ear and inspire thought. Speaking to relevant issues and feelings, they draw us into their world where we are happy to stay …and listen.
As they experienced music growing up they would ask each other… "How could someone possibly know what we were feeling? How did they make that noise?? What planet did they come from?" … the student then becomes the master....now the same questions could be asked of them.
