Dean Matters is a Session Musician/Drummer/Teacher based in Melbourne, Australia. He is currently working with Andrea Marr and is teaching at a variety of schools in the Melbourne area.
Dean was taught by Gerry Pantazis while doing Music Performance as a subject through year 11-12.
After successfully completing his VCE, Dean was accepted into the Diploma In Music Performance course at NMIT, this was an intensive 2-year course where he learnt a wide range of music industry skills. Dean, through the 2 years was given tuition by another great teacher Michael Roachford, Michael taught Dean the fundamentals of Jazz Drumming and also Teaching skills. It was during this time that Deans appreciation for many different styles of music developed. On completing the course in 1996, Dean founded his school of drumming, teaching students of all ages and is still running today.
Now, 2007,After a fifteen year career Dean has played in many varied bands, ensembles, fill in gigs, recording sessions and TV appearances. Dean is now teaching at Whittlesea Secondary College, Carlton nth primary and NMIT Fairfeild campus where he gives one on one and group tuition for the certificate II music industry foundation course drum students. Dean proudly endorses Barter Drums (Australian, custom, hand made drums), and has performed at The Ultimate Drummers Weekend 2000 representing Barter Drums.
