  • Bio

I was initially about to post a complete bio, but I thought I'd spare everyone and just write a brief note about myself. Basically, I'm a 30 year old jazz musician/composer/artist and physician from Detroit, MI. I have a passion for true art and love to perform. I have been playing saxophone professionally since high school and have since worked and performed with many prominent artists on the jazz scene (Roy hargrove, Michael Brecker, Donald Byrd, Rodney Whitaker, Karriem Riggins, Winard Harper, to name a few) and have traveled extensively. I completed undergrad at the University of Michigan (jazz studies) in 2001 where I was awarded the Albert Stanley Music Award (prestigious award giving to only one graduating senior from the entire U-M music school... first jazz musician and African American to receive it!) then moved to NY city to live and perform for a while where I had the opportunity to perform all over the city with various groups. I returned to U-M to complete medical school and recently finished my emergency medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital, in Detroit. I have probably seen and dealt with anything you could imagine--somebody has to do it! : ) I am currently performing with the group Urban Transport (based out of Detroit/Ann Arbor), fairly frequently around the city (Bert's jazz club in the Eastern Market every Saturday night, Baker's keyboard lounge once per month, to name a few regulars). The group is composed of saxophone, trombone, piano, drums, bass and we perform all original compositions written by myself and the trombonist, Vincent Chandler. We have just released our newest album "URBAN TRANSPORT-LIVE" over the Detroit International Jazz Festival and it is now available... pick it up! I have just moved to Philadelphia very recently and am excited about performing with other great musicians, exploring a new scene and taking the music to another level!
