Dean Phelps - vocals, 6- and 12-string guitars, lippersonics and the occasional clawhammer banjo
Influences
John Prine, Lyle Lovett, Nanci Griffith, Kate Wolf, Lowell George, Bonnie Raitt, B.B. King, Mike Cross, John Hiatt, Doc & Merle Watson, Merle Travis, Leo Kottke, Chet Atkins, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Goose Creek Symphony, A.P. Carter, J.D. Souther, John Matsel, Jack Phelps
Dean Phelps's love of folk, gospel, and Americana music dates back to his childhood in Maysville, Ky. His father was a skilled carpenter and an engineer but also a self-taught musician: "If it had frets, he could play it."
"One evening--I must have been about nine--I had his guitar and was just strumming on strings," Dean recalls. "He took my left hand and said, 'Put this finger here and this finger here; now that's a G,' and I've been playing in G pretty much ever since!"
From that time when he first picked up a guitar and learned the shape of a G-chord, Dean Phelps has made music to bring enjoyment to anyone willing to listen. His folk style, positive demeanor and family-friendly repertoire make his music appropriate in a variety of venues, and he has been well received at festivals as well as in churches, cafes and coffee shops across central Indiana.
Doc Possom of Indy Folk News writes: "Dean is an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He is Reverend Dean Phelps, with no apologies, but although he's a Reverend, he's not very churchy. He is a regular guy with a fun repertoire, a relaxed manner, nice picking, and a friendly way of putting a song across!"
"An amazing sounding album which combines great harmonies with fantastic songs that at times are played with just an acoustic guitar; all of which is to Phelps advantage and certainly a joy to hear."

24 Things to Always Remember. . . and One Thing to Never Forget
Your presence is a present to the world. You're unique and one of a kind. Your life can be what you want it to be. Take the days just one at a time.
Count your blessings, not your troubles. You'll make it through whatever comes along. Within you are so many answers. Understand, have courage, be strong.
Don't put limits on yourself. So many dreams are waiting to be realized. Decisions are too important to leave to chance. Reach for your peak, your goal, and your prize.
Nothing wastes more energy than worrying. The longer one carries a problem, the heavier it gets. Don't take things too seriously. Live a life of serenity, not a life of regrets.
Remember that a little love goes a long way. Remember that a lot . . . goes forever. Remember that friendship is a wise investment. Life's treasures are people . . . together.
Realize that it's never too late. Do ordinary things in an extraordinary way. Have health and hope and happiness. Take the time to wish upon a star.
And don't ever forget . . . For even a day . . . How very special you are.
About this page: I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there are a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There are also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this. :D
