Dean Winters was born on 20 July 1964 in New York City, New York, USA . He is an American actor best known for his portrayal of the machiavellian Ryan O'Reilly on HBO's "Oz", side by side with his real life brother Scott William Winters.
They used to bartender around New York's bars, until Tom Fontana found the talented brothers and invite them to work with him.
He has also appeared in the television series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Homicide: Life On the Street". He made guest appearances on "Sex and the City", "Third Watch", "NYPD Blue", "CSI: Miami" and "Rescue Me" ( where he played Denis Leary’s brother Johnny Gavin<> )...

Dean also starred in movies , such as "Undercover Angel", "Bristol Boys", "Hellraiser Hellseeker", "Snipes" and "Conspiracy Theory"…
Dean has three younger siblings, Bradford Winters (a poet/writer who worked in OZ too ), Scott William Winters and his sister Blair who runs the Children's HIV ward of St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in New York...
Scott is also an actor who portrayed Ryan O'Reily's brother Cyril O'Reilly on the T.V. show Oz.
Dean has Italian and Irish heritage and can speak fluent Italian.
