For some time in the 90s, DEAR WOLF have been a well-known part oft the German alternative music scene. With their fifth studio album "The Falldownstandup" once more they present their impressive musical skills. A voice with a creepy Glenn Danzig vibe, accompanied by a heavy bass guitar, euphoric choruses, plain melancholy and a few surprising elements - already the first time you listen to this record, you will be enchanted by these catchy tunes.
DEAR WOLF are compareable to bands like PLEASURE FOREVER and MADRUGADA, if you wish to pigeonhole them. But, after all, DEAR WOLF have been inspired by such a wide range of artists that they pretty much developed their own style over the years. Rather than only writing "simple" songs, DEAR WOLF are storystellers like JOHNNY CASH, JOE STRUMMER and NICK CAVE, their songs haunt you, they catch you, they won't let you escape. For example, "Sister Ray" impresses with a bombastic chorus and a combination of traditional Alternative elements and modern fragments you might as well hear from IGNITE. It is almost impossible to peg their music as a certain style, but whatever wish to call it, people with a distinct passion for music will love this record. A comeback which is far more than just satisfying.

Dear Wolf waren in den 90er Jahren für einige Zeit eine feste Grösse in der deutschen Alternative-Landschaft und mit ihrem fünften Album "The Falldownstandup" zeigen sie nochmal, wo ihre Vorzüge liegen. Ein schauriges Glenn Danzig-Vibrato in der Stimme, der erdige Bass, die überraschenden Umbrüche, die euphorischen Refrains und eine deutliche Melancholie, dies alles beeindruckt bereits beim ersten Hören. PLEASURE FOREVER und MADRUGADA sind vergleichbare Bands, wenn man um eine Einordnung ins Gesamtbild bemüht sein sollte, aber bei DEAR WOLF spielen derart viele Einflüsse eine Rolle, dass man eigentlich mit Fug und Recht behaupten kann, dass die Krefelder ihren ganz eigenen reifen Stil haben. DEAR WOLF sind eher Storyteller im Sinne von Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer und Nick Cave als dass sie "nur" einen Song schreiben, sie nehmen einen gefangen und lassen den Hörer so schnell nicht wieder los. "Sister Ray" hat einen bombastischen Refrain und kombiniert traditionelle Alternative Elemente mit modernen Passagen, die auch von IGNITE sein könnten. Der Versuch einer Kategorisierung muss hier scheitern und generell muss man einfach sagen, dass Menschen mit einem guten Geschmack dieses Album für gut befinden werden, in welche Schublade man es nun auch immer steckt. Ein mehr als gelungenes Comeback.

Hallo Alex, das ist ja wirklich eine Schande. Aber das Leben ist halt kein Ponyhof. Und wer nur die alten Dear Wolf Scheiben hört, der ist nun wirklich wirklich selber schuld. Ich würde mich trotzdem freuen, sie mal wieder zu sehen. Zählen ja die inneren Werte....sagt man. Gruss René
