On the evening of Nov. 5, 2001, Dr. Andrew Bagby, 28, was murdered in a parking lot in western Pennsylvania. The prime suspect, his ex-girlfriend Dr. Shirley Turner, promptly fled the United States for St. John's, Newfoundland -- where she announced that she was pregnant with Andrew's child. She named the little boy Zachary. Filmmaker Kurt Kuenne, Andrew's childhood friend, originally began this film as a way for little Zachary to learn about his father. But when Shirley Turner was allowed to walk free on bail in Canada and given custody of Zachary while awaiting extradition to the United States, the film's focus shifted to Zachary's grandparents, David & Kathleen Bagby, and their desperate efforts to win custody of the boy.

Premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival, Park City, Utah, January 17-25, 2008.

Kim	May 23 2009 12:59 AM this movie was so sad & amazing all at once! i cryed, i laughed & cussed!!! im so sad for the grandparents but also think its amazing how they survived theyre son & grandson being murderd by that evil women!!!!! i think the work they are doing to change the justice system is wonderful..... i hope that one day they will be with theyre son & grandson again!!!!

Miss Kay-Dee	Mar 26 2009 8:55 PM I saw the film on Netflix and was heartbroken for the Bagbys and their friends and family. Andrew was a beautiful person, and poor little Zachary was a delightful little baby. Such a beautiful smile. I've been inspired to do something similar for my six year old nephew who just lost his mother and unborn baby sister in a house fire, but I'm sure nothing I do can come close to comparing to Kurt's masterpiece.

As for Kate and David, they are AMAZING human beings, After I watched this, I got my 13 month old daughter out of bed and held her, and then I said a prayer for the Bagby's. We watched your documentry on Dear Zachary cause i recorded it and have watched it several times,and they were so sad over this.
