I've seen hundreds of acts. Big things, next big things and things that shouldn't have ever been - fuck them all. I'd lost my faith in new music. Then this band struck me like a bolt of lightning. I don't believe in much these days - but I believe in Death Cigarettes even their claim that they were raised by wolves in the back of a van. Some bands play. Some bands perform. Death Cigs blew my fucking mind. They brake the third wall between band and audience. They literally and viscerally engage with a crowd, they play with them as a kitten toys with a mouse before sinking its teeth in. Stand around, nurse your pint, text a friend. Go on - just fucking try. I've not even got to the songs. Jesus, the songs. You're tapping your foot as you're running for cover. Debut single Bleed You Dry starts with a toy keyboard, a slinky bassline and a killer beat, before being bludgeoned by a wall of guitars. 'You gotta lean in and make the kill,' shrieks Maya. Even if Maya is lost in the crowd, the rest of the band can only barely constrain themselves to remain on stage, attacking their instruments as though their lives depended on it.
