Cyber, gothic rock is the confronting picture on this purple, blood red and black canvas. With influences from The Prodigy, NIN and Marilyn Manson, you'd keep your Death of Art CD on the shelf in between your Spawn and The Matrix soundtracks.
This was Erin Blackie's (lead singer/songwriter) vision before this project was even born. She worked on it solo to begin with, working with various producers, but things really started to take shape when she started working with guitarist/writer Andrei Jennings. Since this time, they have worked with numerous people to program their songs and co-write new ones. Many thanks to the contributions made by Ryan Schofield, Jon Lee, Dave Shepherd, Justin Redlich, and Eddie Katz. In 2006, Erin and Andrei welcome keys player Raj Jain who is making a fantastic contribution to their sound.
Along the journey so far, DOA have performed at Melbournes Crown Showroom and Chapel off Chapel at a number of Jaanz Elite concerts. This was a televised event on channel 31 on Jaanz Live, as Erin is a student of world renowned singing teacher, David Jaanz.
DOA have more recently performed at The Melbourne Bizarre Music Festival, have headlined a number of Dark Realm events in 2008 and continue to do so in 2009 at new venue Vedette. Some other venues include DV8 (in conjunction with 1334), The Hi-Fi Bar, The Central Club, The Espy, The Public Bar, Noise Bar, Dream Nightclub at 'Ignite!', The Barleycorn and also a number of acoustic performances at Soak, The 9th Ward, The Comfortable Chair, The Arthouse, Rehab, The Barley Corn, Bennigans, Noise Bar, Brunswick Hotel and The Empress, all here in Melbourne, Australia, where Death of Art are from. They've even had their song "Am I Psycho?" featured in a short horror film which Erin starred in, "The Wakeup Call."
With Erins background in professional dance and acting, a DOA performance is a fantasy, theatrical experience and a witness to Erins on stage self-therapy, which is certainly very real! At some bigger events, they have also enlisted a live drummer and bass player to add to their big sound, and youll even see dancers which Erin choreographs in her no less than dark, theatrical style to complete the canvas that is Death of Art. However, as of April 2009, Death of Art welcome a permanent drummer to their live show - Loz. The band looks forward to many more great shows with her!
It was such a culture shock to have my daughter start school and for us stand in one place all year but it's been a massive healing time for everyone and just as well we did stand still considering what has been manifesting!! It may seem so very hard at times but the difficulties are the mirror for the beautiful possibilities inside of us and between us! I appreciate it when you share warm fuzzies and updates about your own experiences and ways of being. You can be a teacher and an inspiration. x x x
Hello!!! It's been awhile - sorry there hasn't been in any Australian shows for many months but we've been busy in Europe with a bunch of touring and we're now recording our new album in Berlin (scheduled for release in March). But to make up for it, here's a big (and silly) Merry Christmas from us (and from some hippos too) :
Some bold new artistic direction? Nah, Just us being silly!!! We did this track for our label's "Black Snow - the completely different Xmas compilation". (and of course, visit our youtube channel for a high quality version)
Wishing you a very silly Silly Season and we'll see you back in Australia sometime in 2010!
I'd like to introduce eatnoise.com, a new Australian online gig guide. It's designed to support independent original bands and artists, and help gain them an audience!
Over the next coming month you might notice eatnoise's marketing campaign to find new bands, spearhead by our ads in the street press across Australia, it looks like this:
