The 1999 year was some to be remembered as the year which great events left a mark upon politics, sports and music. Brazil was going through a time of hope and expectative with its president being reelected, meanwhile, the Euro was being announced as money between eleven countries part of the European Union. On the music scenario, the Metallica was recording the S&M (Symphony & Metallica) album together with the San Francisco Symphony; meanwhile Iron Maiden announced Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith’s return to the band and the release of Ed Hunter game, being the advertisement of the album, the first with the “new” line up.

At the country area of Sao Paulo state, at Limeira city, Death Slave had begun to write the first sentences of the seventh prophecy. For some years, the group had dedicated exclusively to play songs of great names of the world heavy metal, but feeling that it was time to walk on its own steps. The first step was given by the drummer Marcelo Batistella assuming a partnership with the guitar players Mauro Batistella and Leandro Lazzerini that wrote the Fire Warrior song, which some time later would become the title of its first album. Nevertheless, months later, Mauro Batistella left the group for personal reason which leads to the first change on the still incomplete line up. By that time, many other pages of this history has been written. The group has several songs and it’s has come the time to go to the following level. Marcelo and Leandro joined to the bass player Marcio Aguiar, to the guitar player André de Marqui and counted with the Maurício Oliveira vocals to record their first album.

[ 2 0 0 1 – F I R E W A R R I O R ] After two years of the Death Slave activities began, it releases its first album, title Fire Warrior. The album was made of nine tracks presented a poor production that leads some frustrations and doubts regarding the capacity of the band. However, received good reviews of specialized media that bet on the growth and ripening of the musicians and a promising future to the quintet. Fire Warrior was released in an independent way but has reached good repercussion on Brazil and several European countries, yielding a sequence of concerts, insertion on festivals and best of albums. Some time after its release, the group passes through a new falls. Mauricio Oliveira and Marcio Aguiar made their minds to give up and left the band due to musical reasons.

[ 2 0 0 3 – T H E S H A D O W O F D E A T H ] The line up change reflected significantly on the band soundness that can be seen on The Shadow of Death single which was graced with the following review on Rock Brigade magazine of February 2003: “The Heavy Metal just like 80’s of the group is way more mature, the instrumental part is excellent, the guitar’s tone impeccable and bass & drums are more aligned”. The bass lines on the single that comes up with Evil Child and The Shadow of the Death songs were responsibilities of Flavio Biazi, while the new vocals were assigned to Eric de Oliveira. The Evil Child song was also released on the best of “Paranoid Collection” from Paranoid fanzine and “O Livro da Morte” promoted by the North American’s label Black Castle.

[ 2 0 0 4 – A G R E A T Y E A R ] At last quarter of 2003, band passed through a renew of the line-up after Leandro and Flavio leaving it. It was time to pause and get prepared for a great year that was to come. With Tiago Pescarolo and Felipe Piccirilo joining the group, the band changed its course and musicality without step away of the traditional Heavy Metal that was used to. The guitar player Tiago improved a lot the new compositions while Felipe demonstrated all his technical and huge performance. The concerts were becoming frequently time after time and at live concerts, people were impressed with the bands performance. The name Death Slave got more acknowledges every day and by April 2004 the band was invited to play an opening concert for the biggest Brazil Metal band: Sepultura. The concert played at Limeira city, showed the band in an inspired night raising the crowd with songs from “Fire Warrior” and “The Shadow of Death” and new songs that would be on the second band’s album. Regardless the reduced concert time, the band received kudos from the Sepultura’s production team and members of that band as well; also they were recognized by the local media. It was a matter of time till the Death Slave releases its second album.

[ 2 0 0 5 – S E A O F D R E A M S ] Even with the great concerts done by the band during the whole 2004 year, Death Slave didn’t hold the same line up and passed through more changes with the departure of guitar player André de Marqui but mainly for the left of bass player Felipe Piccirilo. The team was rebuilt with the bass player Victor Hugo coming and the return of Leandro Lazzerini. On 2005, the EP “Sea of Dreams” was released receiving very positive reviews from the specialized media. The “Sea of Dreams” and “Dreams” songs represented the frequently group evolution as the last one was top five classified on a big mobile carrier contest.

[ 2 0 0 7 – W E L C O M E T O T H E V A L L E Y ] Given the success critics of “Sea of Dreams” EP it was time to record a new album. The band had a set of songs ready and couldn’t wait more, however, before go to the studio they had to face another change on the line up. Victor Hugo and Leando Lazzerini left, they count on Felipe Piccirilo return and the new guitar player Bruno Sampaio that gave a green light for the records to began. The 2007 year was marked by Eric de Oliveira left, replaced during the record sessions by Victor Pacheco, talented vocalist indicated by Tiago Pescarolo. Victor radically changed the Death Slave vocals, discarding the traditional acute tones and betting on a more aggressive style which fit much better to the band’s songs.

[ 2 0 0 8 – V A L L E Y O F M I R R O R ] At first quarter of 2008 the Death Slave release its second album title “Valley of Mirror”, the LP with 11 tracks was released by the Die Hard Records being very well accepted by the public and specialized media. The magazine Comando Rock published: “The new album, counting with a different line up, brings attention by the group evolution…” “the vocals – mainly difficult found on the first LP – was resolved with a new member that mix wisely acute and aggressive tones…” and wrap ups “Worth the price to check this new (and much better) band’s phase!”. At 2009 the band went through a new change on the line up and after Felipe Piccirilo left the band is lined up by: Victor Pacheco (Vocals), Bruno Sampaio and Tiago Pescarolo (Guitars), Daniel Poletti (Bass) and Marcelo Batistella (Drums) and it prepares to get back on road to advertise its most recent wok. Ten years has passes through and musicians made part of the band’s history that dedicates to traditional Heavy Metal, immortalized by great bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Saxon, mixing progressive and Hard rock elements.

BIOGRAFIA

O ano de 1999 foi marcado por diversos acontecimentos históricos que marcaram a política, os esportes e a música. O Brasil atravessava uma fase de grande expectativa com a reeleição de seu presidente, enquanto o Euro era anunciado como moeda de onze paises membros da união européia. Na música, o Metallica gravava o álbum S&M (Symphony & Metallica) com a orquestra Sinfônica de San Francisco, enquanto o Iron Maiden anunciava o retorno de Bruce Dickinson e Adrian Smith à banda, e o lançamento do game Ed Hunter, sendo a tour de divulgação do disco, a primeira com a “nova” formação.

No interior do estado de São Paulo, na cidade Limeira, o Death Slave começava a escrever as primeiras frases da sétima profecia. Durante alguns anos, a banda havia se dedicado exclusivamente a tocar clássicos de grandes nomes do heavy metal mundial, mas sentia que era o momento de caminhar com as próprias pernas. O primeiro passo foi dado pelo baterista Marcelo Batistella em parceria com os guitarristas Mauro Batistella e Leandro Lazzerini que escreveram a música Fire Warrior, que mais tarde seria o titulo de seu primeiro álbum.

Porém, meses mais tarde, Mauro Batistella deixou a banda por motivos pessoais o que causou a primeira mudança na, ainda incompleta, formação da banda.

Nesse período, muitas outras páginas dessa historia foram escritas. A banda tinha diversas músicas e chegava à hora de dar o próximo passo. Marcelo e Leandro se uniram ao baixista Marcio Aguiar, o guitarrista André de Marqui e contavam com os vocais de Maurício Oliveira para a gravação de seu primeiro trabalho.

[ 2 0 0 1 – F I R E W A R R I O R ] Após dois anos do início de suas atividades o Death Slave lançava seu primeiro album, com o título de Fire Warrior. O disco que conta com nove faixas apresentou uma fraca produção e o que acabou gerando certa frustração e dúvidas em relação à capacidade da banda. Entretanto, recebeu boas criticas da mídia especializada que apostava no crescimento e amadurecimento dos músicos e um futuro promissor para o quinteto.

Fire Warrior foi lançado de forma independente e conseguiu grande repercussão no Brasil e em diversos países da Europa, rendendo à banda uma série de shows, participação em festivais e coletâneas. Algum tempo após o seu primeiro lançamento, a banda sofre uma nova baixa. Maurício Oliveira e Marcio Aguiar decidem deixar a banda por diferenças musicais.

[ 2 0 0 3 – T H E S H A D O W O F D E A T H ] A mudança no line-up refletiu significativamente na sonoridade da banda que pode ser conferida no single The Shadow of Death que recebeu a seguinte avaliação na revista Rock Brigade de fevereiro de 2003: “O Heavy Metal bem anos 80 do grupo está mais maduro, o instrumental está excelente, o timbre das guitarras está impecável e a cozinha está muito mais coeza”. O baixo do single que trazia as musicas Evil Child e The Shadow of Death ficou a cargo de Flavio Biazi, enquanto os vocais foram confiados à Eric de Oliveira.

A música Evil Child também foi lançada nas coletâneas “Paranoid Collection” da Paranoid fanzine e “O Livro da Morte” promovida pelo selo norte-americano Black Castle.

[ 2 0 0 4 – U M G R A N D E A N O ] No final do ano de 2003 a banda passou por nova reformulação no line-up após as saídas de Leandro e Flavio. Era o momento de fazer uma pausa e se preparar para o grande ano que estava por vir. Com a entrada de Tiago Pescarolo e Felipe Piccirilo a banda deu outro direcionamento à sua música sem fugir do Heavy Metal tradicional que praticava.

O guitarrista Tiago acrescentou muito às novas composições enquanto Felipe mostrava toda sua técnica e grande performance. Os shows eram cada vez mais freqüentes e a performance da banda, ao vivo, impressionava. O nome Death Slave ganhava maior reconhecimento a cada dia e em abril de 2004 a banda foi convidada a fazer a abertura do show da maior banda de Metal do Brasil: O Sepultura.

O show realizado na cidade de Limeira mostrou os “donos da casa” em noite inspirada, levantando o público presente com músicas do “Fire Warrior” e “The Shadow of Death” e músicas novas que estariam no segundo álbum da banda. Apesar do tempo reduzido de show, o quinteto limeirense recebeu elogios por parte da produção e dos músicos do Sepultura, além de terem ganho destaque na imprensa local. Era questão de tempo para que o Death Slave lançasse seu segundo álbum.

[ 2 0 0 5 – S E A O F D R E A M S ] Mesmo com as grandes apresentações feitas pela banda durante todo o ano de 2004, o Death Slave não conseguiu manter mesma formação e sofreu mais mudanças com a saída do guitarrista André de Marqui e principalmente do baixista Felipe Piccirilo. O time foi completo com a entrada do baixista Victor Hugo e o retorno de Leandro Lazzerini.

Em 2005 o EP “Sea of Dreams” foi lançado recebendo criticas bastante positivas na mídia especializada. As músicas “Sea of Dreams” e “Dreams” mostravam a constante evolução da banda sendo que esta ultima foi classificada entre as cinco melhores em um concurso de uma grande operadora de telefonia móvel.

[ 2 0 0 7 – W E L C O M E T O T H E V A L L E Y ] Com o sucesso de crítica do EP “Sea of Dreams” chegava a hora de gravar um novo álbum. A banda tinha uma série de músicas prontas e não podia mais esperar, porém, antes de entrar em estúdio, tiveram que encarar mais uma mudança de formação. Com a saída de Victor Hugo e Leandro Lazzerini, contaram com o retorno de Felipe Piccirilo e a entrada do guitarrista Bruno Sampaio dando início à gravação do novo trabalho. O ano de 2007 foi marcado pela saída de Eric de Oliveira, substituído durante as gravações por Victor Pacheco, talentoso vocalista indicado por Tiago Pescarolo. Victor mudou radicalmente o vocal do Death Slave, fugindo dos tradicionais agudos e apostando em um estilo mais agressivo que fez muito bem à sonoridade da banda.

[ 2 0 0 0 8 – V A L L E Y O F M I R R O R ] No início de 2008 o Death Slave lançou seu segundo álbum intitulado “Valley Of Mirror”, disco com 11 faixas foi lançado pela Die Hard Records sendo muito bem aceito pelo público e mídias especializadas. A revista Comando Rock publicou: “O novo disco, que conta com uma diferente formação, chama atenção pela evolução do grupo...” “os vocais – principal dificuldade encontrada no primeiro CD – foram solucionados com um novo integrante que mescla inteligentemente agudos e agressivos...” e completa “Vale a pena conferir essa nova (e muito melhor) fase da banda!”. Em 2009 a banda passou por uma nova mudança em sua formação e após a saída de Felipe Piccirilo conta com o seguinte line-up: Victor Pacheco (vocal) Bruno Sampaio e Tiago Pescarolo (guitars) Daniel Poletti (bass) e Marcelo Batistella (drums) e se prepara para voltar a estrada na divulgação de seu mais recente trabalho. Dez anos se passaram e muitos músicos fizeram parte da história dessa banda que se dedica ao Heavy Metal tradicional, eternizado por grandes bandas como Judas Priest, Iron Maiden e Saxon, mesclando elementos progressivos e do Hard Rock
