My influences include the pillars of children's music including Shari Lewis, Buffalo Bob Smith from Howdy Doody, and Bob McGrath of Sesame Street fame. Raffi, Hap Palmer, and Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer continue to influence my work. And, most recently, my music has been influenced by the great work of of Laurie Berkner, Dan Zanes, SteveSongs, Justin Roberts, Ralph's World, and many others.
Combine a love of children, music, and education, and you’ve got Debbie Cavalier of “Debbie and Friends.” Babies, toddlers, kids and their grown-ups all love Debbie and Friends songs; they’re fun, educational, and stylistically diverse. From original rock, pop, and show-style tunes, to down-home country and story songs, there’s something for everyone.
Debbie has been making music for children for over 20 years and has worked with some of the world’s greatest icons in children’s music entertainment and education throughout her publishing tenure. These pillars of children’s music include Shari Lewis, Buffalo Bob Smith of Howdy Doody, and Sesame Street famed music teacher, Bob McGrath. Their influence on her songwriting and her creative approach to sharing music with children is evident.
Debbie and Friends’ songs have been called thoughtful, clever, and creative, and anyone who has been one of Debbie's concerts will tell you it’s great fun for everyone!
Reviews!
Jill Fennimore, TAB Reporter, Watertown, MA: When you hear and see Debbie Cavalier, there’s no denying she’s fluent in the language of music. With a keyboard and a bright smile, the Watertown resident captures the attention of a room full of preschool-aged children, each one hanging onto her every note.
Bob McGrath, Sesame Street: Debbie Cavalier is a genius for putting classic tales to music, as well as writing great new songs for kids and parent to love. I wish someone had written songs like this when I was a kid!
The Dove Foundation: Debbie reminds me of a beloved kindergarten teacher with her soothing voice and creative outlook. Her optimism and love of children comes through in her Story Songs and Sing Alongs CD. "Debbie and Friends" is a treat for kids of all ages and receives the Dove "Family-Approved" Seal.
Gregory Keer, Family Man Online: Using a pop music spin that revolves at a pace just right for pre- and elementary-school ears, she offers upbeat songs that boost young egos, teach key concepts, and promote laughter. Debbie performs with a clear purpose of entertaining and teaching young minds. This puts her in the company of such family music standard bearers as Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer as well as current superstar Laurie Berkner.
Jim Golden, Former manager to Shari Lewis: Delightful Songs!
