I travel so much and can so little afford to take my band with me that I have taken to getting to know some of the pro players in the cities I hit the most, and voila I have a band in a bunch of towns now! In Miami (since that's my home town),
Buffalo Brown: acoustic or electric guitar. Buffalo is a wonderful spirit whose laid back attitude goes perfectly with his funky and soulful playing. Plus he sings and I'm just generally sweet on him, and you will be too as soon as you meet him. If Buffalo was a Care Bear he would be Tenderheart Bear (if of course Tenderheart Bear could shred)
Nathan "Monkey" Greenberg, bass guitar, this guy is such a quick study and sweet as he can be. Talk about living for music. Mono has been playing with me long enough to know my original tunes and he spent years playing in reggae bands so I love to learn from him when we try to go there.
Alan Reyna: Alan plays for Locos Por Juana; a latin fusion band that is doing really well and deservedly so. He is so humble to be so flippin good. I love the world rhythms he brings to my roots folk music. Killer.
Alison Irvine: I can't always get everything I want so sometimes the show must go on with out Alison, but when I can get her she is always making the light shine brighter with her awesome improv skills on violin and beautiful high vocal harmonies.
On the West Coast I often rely on Bill Macpherson, bass and guitar. Bill also produced both of my records, Leviathan and Velveteen. He is a veteran player out of the LA music scene with enough sense to have relocated to Costa Rica.
When I can I play music with Danny Campbell out of San Diego, he plays the drums and helps hold down the room so I can catch my audience; they rarely seem to mind. Danny plays on Velveteen and I would use him again for a recording project or a tour in a heartbeat!!!
On lead guitar I like to hire Dave Edmiston, or Pat Michalik. On harmonica my first choice is Eric Garcia, or Kellie Rucker when I can get her. On sax I like to play with Jason, or Keith Cooper.
Jeffrey Shenandoah is a charmer on percussion, three congas, bongos, chimes, and he sings a bit too....
In Atlanta theres always Chris Wilfong, in North Carolina Mikey Adams on upright bass, and Joe Hammet on guitar, In San Fransisco the boys from Bayonics help me out, I'd take any one of them, or (lord help the club that gets so lucky) all of them!!!! In Costa Rica, Jungle Joe and Steve Cohn and Johnny Lonborg are top pics. In Jax Beach I like to work with Flash, and John Tipton....
I guess you get the idea.

a girl with a guitar, except when I am lucky enough to play with my friends, when we sound like a front porch jam.

I know that Myspace is a powerful place to network and I want to do that, I just wish we could do it outside. Too much time on a computer and my head starts swimming.
Here's the scoop on a couple of things I have been doing:
I put out two CDs independantly (well, what a word: I had a bunch of help, people pre-bought the cds, and I got a deal on every player and owe my credit card company a heap) but without label support anyway, you can buy them at CDBaby.com/deblois, or of course on iTunes.
and I have tirelessly been touring the Nation ever since. In 2006 I played the Maui Film Festival, in 2007 the Monterey Music Summit, this year I got to open for the folk rock band America at the Ritz in Naples, FL, and of course I make an appearance at every bar and honkey tonk that'll have me between here and Mississippi. Plus a few in California, the Bahamas and Costa Rica.
I am reading Miles Davis' autobiography, I love to surf, my dog's name is Lucky. My favorite color is blue, and I can hold my breath for almost 2 minutes. I have 6 brothers and sistas, and they are kick ass every one.
Hey Deblois! LOVE YOUR MUSIC! When will the new songs be avaible to listen online? I can't wait to hear them! Think you'll be in Atlanta any time soon? Tell Buffalo the crazy couple from Jacksonville that named their super cool pup after him said hey : ) Take care!
I'm really enjoying listening to your music: you've got a gorgeous voice. I can't believe it but my friend and bandmate (below) Ann Klein just posted a comment to you below. Did you friend us at the same time? Maybe you saw our show on Friday or something... be well and keep singing your heart out.
