Writing, but I guess that's pretty obvious!
Reading, especially books written for teens (it helps to know my competition!) I grew up reading science fiction and still love the genre and related genres--paranormal, supernatural, horror, magical realism, fantasy.
I'm a movie addict, both new and old
I love walking/hiking, especially in wilderness areas.
Camping is high on my list of favorite activities--real camping, in a tent, not "camping" in an RV. I like canoe trips, but prefer to avoid rapids.
I'm fond of Dobermans, snakes, skinks and birds, and love to nature-watch.
I once stayed up all night to watch a meteor shower. I highly recommend it.
Music
Pop music, and classic rock. My tastes are not sophisticated, so I listen to a local pop station while I write.
Current favs: Nickelback, Rob Thomas.
Old favs: Dan Fogelburg, Kansas, Chicago, Journey, Survivor, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins
Favorite current songs:
Lips of an Angel (Hinder),
Saving Me, Photograph, Far Away (Nickelback),
The entire Rob Thomas CD, Something To Be,
When September Ends, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, (Green Day),
Move Along, (All-American Rejects)
Movies
Superman Returns,
A Knight's Tale,
Kingdom of Heaven,
Troy,
Legends of the Fall,
Braveheart,
Shakespeare in Love,
First Knight,
MIB,
Lord of the Rings trilogy,
all the Harry Potter movies,
Romeo and Juliet (the one with Olivia Hussey),
Henry IV (with Kenneth Branaugh),
Hamlet (both the Branaugh version and the Mel Gison version)
Television
Smallville,
Medium,
Supernatural,
House,
Bones,
Lost,
American Idol
Books
If I had to name a favorite book, I'd say The Legacy of Heorot (Niven, Barnes and Pournelle) and the Dragon series by Anne McCaffery.
I think I've read the Lord of the Rings trilogy six times.
I read speculative fiction, which is a broad category--science fiction, both hard and psychological, paranormal, supernatural, horror and fantasy (but not so much high fantasy--all those names confuse me!)
I enjoy historical novels, once in a while.
And Shakespeare. Much, much Shakespeare, his tragedies, his comedies, his sonnets...
Heroes
Christopher Reeve, Stephen Hawking, Michael J. Fox--for not letting their physical limitations limit them.
My first published book was middle grade, and the second is a teen novel. I have a second teen novel to be released in fall 2007, and another on the drawing board.
What's speculative fiction? It's not quite science fiction, not quite fantasy, not quite paranormal or supernatural or horror or magical realism--but may include all of these categories.

CHOICES
CHOICES, Roaring Brook Press, Sept. 2007.
Available wherever books are sold! Or, ask your library to order a few copies.
CHOICES is an ALA Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers.
"Kathleen’s melancholic tale does justice both to the moving story of a girl coming to terms with the death of her brother and to the magical adventure of a universe-shifting girl trying to find her way home."
VOYA:
This book is a fast read that will sweep readers up in the complications of the many lives of Kathleen/Kay/Kate/Kathy. Although encompassing an unimaginable concept, it makes the notion of traveling multiple realities believable and understandable. Intermixing the fine details of the book, Jacobs finds time to throw in splashes of rebellion, new love, and complex decisions. However heavy the book's subject and characters seem to be, it is, in the end, a light yet thrilling read.
BOOKLIST:
The supernatural premise makes this book about choices and consequences stand out…readers will root for a couple so clearly drawn together. Booth, Heather
TEENS READ TOO:

Deborah Lynn Jacobs has created a thought-provoking novel about the importance of life choices. Kathleen learns a lot about herself as she navigates her way through her many lives, attempting to reconcile with family, friends, and her own feelings about loss and love.
POWERS
POWERS was released by Roaring Brook Press in Sept. 2006. It was nominated for ALA's Quick Pics for Reluctant Readers. It also received an honorable mention by the Sunburst Jury (the Sunburst is a Canadian award for speculative fiction)
PRAISE FOR POWERS
VOYA:
"This novel is more than a typical fantasy/science fiction exploration of psychic powers. Nicely developed subplots deal with romance, friendship, and family relationships."
SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL:
"This fast-paced plunge into ESP effectively blends the occult with the turmoil of adolescent romance."
is there anything wrong with thinking ahead? plus its raining here like u wudnt believe... not necessarily a bad thing... hope yr having fun anyway.. smile on
I used to have it on VHS. It was from a special, Masterpiece Theater rebroadcast that included maybe some of the last commentaries by Alister Cooke, which were really great. Sadly, I don't have it anymore. I'd like to get it on DVD, though I don't know if they include the AC commentaries. Hopefully, they're uncut. That show was pretty racy.
One thing I love about the series is some really great lines. Hey, let's play a little game. I'll write a favorite line. Let's see if you can identify it. Then you give me a favorite line. Okay, here goes:
"He's still the loveable young man we all know. I can attest to that."
BTW, Claudius's sister, Livilla, do you recognize her? She played Magenta in "Rocky Horror Picture Show."
BTW, I talked with an agent last night. Yeah, it was a drunken conversation, but he didn't run away screaming at my "pitch". I also made contact with a local book club.
Not a great summer... we had bushfires and had some personal battles... so welcoming autumn right now.. and getting back into writing... only paused briefly... the rejections piling up.. lol.. you know how it is...
Hows yr writing coming along?
well, i just thought that it had another meaning. oops. i guess i just looked into it to hard. some authors do weird stuff like that so i tend to over think things.
well thanks for adding me and commenting me. i really did like powers and choices. i will have to read the other one you have soon. if my local library has it then i will read it soon but if not i will have to pick it up at the book store. i was wondering about something. in the end of choices on one of the blank pages it said choice2. it wasnt a two but it was a backwards s. i was wondering if you were implying on a choices 2 or something. just curios. i am probably looking to far into because i wouldnt mind a second one...
thanks a lot! :) i'll definately keep at it! writing is something i love to do. and reading too. myspace is helping me find new authors. do you just have the two books? i'll have to look them up on amazon.
