DECADENT DAUGHTERS 08 SINGLE + VIDEO [DEMON DOLL RECORDS] - Black & Blue -
Decadent Daughters started in 2007 in a decadent, grey and dirty Ferrol following the break-up of teen-sleaze band Strütter that just ended their England tour.
The boys had other artistic projects to develop, and at a certain point, Strütter just wasn’t enough, both image and music-wise. Based on all sorts of influences, they decided to go for a fresher sound.
The idea was to go on doing what they like but without sounding antiquated or old-fashioned. Kane arrived one day to the rehearsal with a brand new concept: Decadent Daughters, a band with a highly visual element, a shock for the sight, and with music rooted in Punk; influenced by all kinds of styles and genres their members enjoyed; ranging from the most classic heavy metal to the most extravagant and visually stunning and radical visual kei bands. All this shaken with the cock-rock attitude they adopted in Strütter and inherited from Mötley Crüe.
Andy, Chris and Kane contacted Lizz, an old friend who was more than appropriate for the new concept of the band. After several months of rehearsals, they found the right drummer: Dani, Kane’s brother, who regardless of not being the most technically skillful of drummers, was just right for the band.
Once the band was ready, the machine started, they needed songs, they needed photos and a way to show themselves to the world. They recorded their demo “Dead Class Heroes” composed of 5 tracks (Exploited Teens, Rip Your Heart Out, Fall, No Stars To Guide Us and Sickness) and traveled to Madrid for a photo session with friend Rebeca Saray, succesful photographer who already worked with Chris for her book of atistic photography “Feelings”.
Myspace became the Decadent Daughter’s headquarters. After uploading their songs and their photos, the not-so-slow but not-so-safe rise of these five boys started taking place.
After a week of uploading their tracks, two of them already found their way into international publications. “Exploited Teens” appeared in GlamNation vol. 2, an american compilation of Sleaze Glam, “Rip Your Heart Out” was the second track in an issue of Devolution Magazine, an alternative musc publication in United Kingdom. The demo met with critical acclaim in Mondosonoro and Rockzone.
DDs started to provoke all kinds of sensation among the public, from love to hate, but never being ignored. Their music started convincing people as diverse as grindcore fans all the way to the most conservative sectors of the public. Nevertheless it was the teenage world that (un)expectedly found DDs really appealing. Their shameless look was immediately covering high-school folders and notebooks, their names written on the edges of desks and on walls of girl bathrooms. Loka Magazine, massive publication for fifteen year old females, published a picture of the band at request of the public and even published an interview with the band.
They were tagged as Emos and Posers because of their image and their success with the youth, nevertheless the band never provoked or facilitated this process. From their total lack of respect for various hit bands, to their dirty and irreverent attitude, both on and offstage; and their occasional apology of drugs against the ruling Straight Edge mentality.
Still, with all these theoretical manifestoes, Decadent Daughters are a pure straight rock’n’roll band. They are not punk, they are not visual, they are not glam, they are not metal, they are not whatever-core. As Kane stated in 2008: “we are just plain rock’n’roll, simple, if you are clever enough you’ll realize it on your own”.
In spring of 2008, and after several local gigs and some concerts around Spain, DDs embarked in the production of their first videoclip: “Black & Blue”. The boys wanted a professional level, so they went straight to GonSound in Vigo to record their single.
The videoclip was hard proof of what they’re capable of, being a band with just a recorded demo. From spontaneous apparitions in magazines to full-page interviews, posters and TV (with “Black & Blue” airing on Sol Musica) appearing on various national TV shows. The boys even received a couple of label offers, that due to contractual differences, were rejected.
After a sporadic tour around Spain during the summer period, various fansites started to pop up around the net, and to the boys’ surprise, there were people waiting in line hours before the shows. DDs shared the stage with acts such as: Violent Pachinko, The Kendolls or Guitar Mafia in venues like Siroco, Apolo II or El Loco.
In early 2009 the arrangements for the edition of their single “Black & Blue” start through the american label Demon Doll Records, based on Hollywood CA.
Now on summer they signed with their present manager Maximino López & Run Rum Axencia; and thanks to him the guys started recording the first full album called "Greetings from the Gutter" at Gonsound studios again, still working on the album; Decadent Daughters are focusing on keep on playing alive around Spain and hitting the media as they did before.
Future plans for the band are to go on playing live and spreading their name as soon as Greetings from the Gutter comes out.
