About me:
SHAKESPEARE’S TRAGEDY OF POLITICAL INTRIGUE AND SUBJECTIVE MORALITY, JULIUS CAESAR, MAKES ITS MARK AT THE POWERHOUSE
SEPTEMBER 11- 27(Fri & Sat nights at 8pm, Sundays at 7:30pm)
SANTA MONICA, CA- The latest offering from the Declan Adams Theatre Company is William Shakespeare’s timeless take on the assassination of Roman Dictator, Julius Caesar. Featuring returning cast members from their sold out runs of As You Like It and Romeo & Juliet, and directed by Artistic Producer Erwin Tuazon, Julius Caesar opens September 11th at the Power Theatre and runs through September 27th.
Julius Caesar is the bard’s legendary retelling of Roman Senators Marcus Brutus and Caius Cassius’ plot to murder Dictator Julius Caesar on the Ides of March and restore the Republic to the people of Rome. Following Caesar’s unnatural death at the hands of “Brutus and the rest”, General Marc Antony vows revenge against the conspirators with the help of brilliant funeral oration and the unexpectedly able hands of youth Octavius Caesar. At its heart, this is truly the tragedy of Marcus Brutus as he agonizes over the “right” to take the life of his dear friend, Julius Caesar, and follows through with a dramatic assassination on the Senate floor that would not only change the course of Rome, but echo throughout world history.
Declan Adams Theatre prides itself on offering unique, modern interpretations of the Bard’s work that both illuminate the language and remain accessible to present-day audiences. This production re-imagines a Rome where men and women are political equals and the new and vibrant colors this might add to their relationships were Julius Caesar, Caius Cassius and Octavius Caesar all women. While action and intrigue will certainly not take a backseat, Director Erwin Tuazon wants to bring the “dynamic personal relationships between political titans who loom God-like over the destinies of the Empire” to the forefront of this staging of Julius Caesar.
Presented by the Declan Adams Theatre Company, Julius Caesar is written by William Shakespeare, directed by Erwin Tuazon, with scenic design by Frank Astran, sound and costume design by Erwin Tuazon, lighting design by Karyn Lawrence, dance choreography by Cheryl Texiera, starring JR Esposito as Marcus Brutus and Lovelle Liquigan as Caius Cassius, Jeff Holden as Marc Antony, Zack Price as Casca and Jessica Temple as Julius Caesar also featuring John Brockmeier, Ryan Causey, Leigh Dunham, Eliza Kiss, Anna Kate Mohler, Max Smythe, Christine Terrisse, Erwin Tuazon, and Lourdes Uribe. Julius Caesar is produced by Jeff Hirbour and Erwin Tuazon.
The Declan Adams Theatre Company is dedicated to staging Shakespeare’s works with a fresh vitality that showcases the genius of the playwright 400 years after his death. Julius Caesar marks the sixth production for the company following successful runs of Hamlet, Much Ado about Nothing, Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet and As You Like It.
The Powerhouse Theatre is housed, appropriately enough, in the Powerhouse, a historical
building originally erected in 1910 for the Southern California EdisonElectrical Plant for the city of Santa Monica. Committed to nurturing innovative new work, the Powerhouse has introduced Los Angeles audiences to critically-acclaimed world premieres such as the multiple award-winning The Shaggs: Philosophy of the World; the scathingly funny The Family Room by Aron Coleite; Golden Prospects: A Los Angeles Melodrama by Colin Campbell; and A Series of Comedic Lectures with John Lehr.
Tickets are $20.00 at the door or when purchased online at www.powerhousetheatre.com
The Powerhouse Theatre is located at 3116 2nd Street in south Santa Monica, just off Main Street between Rose and Marine. Guests in wheelchairs should call in advance to make arrangements. For information, the public should visit www.myspace.com/declanadamstheatre/
