De Diouf's music beats to the world's rhythm, it beats to the rhythm
of a journey nurtured by encounter and by the quest for new horizons.
The artist's music took its source about thirty years ago in Senegal, in
a household where traditional African rhythms and the musical dazzles
of Marvin Gaye and James Brown intermingled in mislaid vinyls. From
this combo an undeniable creative passion was to be birthed.
Mohamed Diouf pursued literature studies in Europe where he never
ceased to enrich his contemplation. From Paris to Berlin, passing by
Geneva or Luxembourg, he wrote lyrics and discovered varied
musical styles that allowed him to mold his own universe which he is
now unveiling through his debut album entitled A.N.G (African Artists
for the Next Generation). The opus' songs written in Wolof, French and
English are a testimony to the singer's eclectic journey.
One could evoke his ethereal voice, his songlyrics that relate of an African
continent free of stereotypes, or his pleasant tonality that juggles between
blues and ballads. One could elaborate with a farandole of conventional
superlatives that usually accompanies a press kit. One could ... Yet this
music deserves a different logic, a logic of receptiveness and careful
listening rather than elaborating about it; a logic that brings one to simply
play this CD and to let oneself be transported by the new musical
experience that this artist has to offer.
De Diouf's music finds its roots in Africa and expands and nourishes itself
from the most remote musical currents. It is a symbol of the movement
African Artists For the Next Generation. Fascinatingly, the artist colors
Jazz with African singing, his melodies inspired by his Serere roots
seduce the soul and he converts house music to ethnorock.
This debut album's songs are marked by the seal of encounter, they were
written in French, English and wolof. Several French, African, Arabic, Swiss
and American artists collaborated with De Diouf on these songs.
This improbable, spontaneous innovation was made possible thanks to the
encounter between De Diouf and Francois Rivollet, a French artist who is a
graduate of the Music Institute of Los Angeles. He also has been the artistic
director, arranger and composer of the project. Consequence of an eclectic
journey, his universal approach made it possible to draw the quintessence
of these artists from diverse horizons. The produced alchemy thus allowed
the revelation of De Diouf's musical universe.

La musique de De Diouf bat au rythme d’un itinéraire nourri par la rencontre et la quête de nouveaux horizons. Elle prend sa source il y a une trentaine d’années, au Sénégal, dans une maison familiale où s’entremêlaient les rythmes traditionnels de l’Afrique et les fulgurances musicales de Marvin Gaye ou de James Brown offertes par quelques 33 tours. De ce terreau inédit allait naître une passion créatrice qui n’allait jamais se démentir.
En Europe, où il vient pour poursuivre ses études, Mohamed Diouf ne va jamais cesser d’enrichir sa réflexion. De Paris à Berlin, en passant par Genève ou le Luxembourg, il continue d’écrire ses textes, rencontre d’autres musiques qui lui permettent de façonner son propre univers. Aujourd’hui, De Diouf dévoile celui-ci à travers son premier album éponyme. Onze chansons écrites en wolof, en français et en anglais témoignent de ce parcours électrique.
On aurait pu évoquer sa voix éthérée, ses textes qui parlent d’une Afrique sans clichés, cette tonalité inédite qui jongle entre blues et balades. On aurait pu enfin y associer cette farandole de superlatifs convenus qui nourrit habituellement un dossier de presse. On aurait pu… Mais cette musique mérite finalement une autre logique. Une logique qui conduit simplement à écouter cette musique plutôt que d’en parler. Une logique qui amène à mettre ce cd dans une chaîne ou un autoradio et à se laisser transporter par l’univers que cet artiste vous propose.
Symbole du nouveau mouvement African Artists For Next Generation, la musique de De Diouf s’enracine dans la terre d’Afrique pour s’ouvrir et se nourrir des courants musicaux les plus lointains. Ici, le jazz se colore aux chants africains, les mélodies Serere séduisent la soul et la house se convertit en ethnorock.
Ce premier album de De Diouf est ainsi marqué du sceau de la rencontre. En témoigne ces onze chansons écrites en français, en anglais et en wolof et auxquelles ont collaboré une dizaine d’artistes français, africains, arabes, suisses et américains.
Improbable, spontanée, cette innovation a été rendue possible grâce à la rencontre entre De Diouf et François Rivollet. Diplômé du Music Institute de Los Angeles, cet artiste français a simultanément assuré les rôles de directeur artistique, arrangeur et compositeur. Conséquence d’un itinéraire éclectique, son approche universelle a permis de tirer la quintessence de ces artistes d’horizon divers. L’alchimie opérée a ainsi permis de révéler l’univers musical de De Diouf.
