Rain on Fire was formed in 1989 by four musicians from the San Fernando Valley, California. Rain on Fire is considered to be a hard core / metal rock band with kick-ass female vocals. The truth is all four musicians came from all over the United States. Deedra is California born and bred, having moved to Los Angeles in 1989 to pursue a career in music. Tory Dawson is from Long Island, New York. Tory packed it up with his New York heavy metal band and trekked across the U.S. old school style, in a van, to make it big. Greg Hurla hailed from Kansas with his band just like Tory. And last but not least, the Big Man, Alan Tate originally from Rhode Island. These four incredibly diverse individuals met up when they were in the band Typsy Fox. Typsy Fox was a well known, headlining band fronted by lead guitarist, Doug Barrett. Typsy Fox had been headlining The Roxy, The Whiskey, and many other popular Hollywood venues for years. After this five-some began to create their music and write as a group, they began to realize that their musical styles were drifting apart. That is when Rain on Fire was formed. Doug went off to do his thing and the remaining four members created Rain (later changed to Rain on Fire). "We were more than a band, we were family", says lead vocalist, Deedra Patrick. Deedra and Tory were "musical soul mates" if you ask either one of them. They just had an incredible chemistry when it came to writing songs. The band stayed together physically from 1989 to 1994 and remain together spiritually throughout eternity. During their five years together, they headlined every show they ever did throughout the Los Angeles area. They were always the only heavy band performing that had a female vocalist. In 1992, Rain on Fire, began to spark record label interest and started getting some airplay on local Los Angeles stations such as KLOS, as well as, international college radio stations. Without a doubt, had this band remained together, you would be able to find their music in any record store, or any rock radio station across the U.S. But, life stepped in, in its awkward and controlling way ...and well the rest is a blog entry soon to come.
