Hailing from the sunny beaches of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, DJ6 is a band whose music is the complete opposite of the place they're from. Sounding cold, complex, intimate and sophisticated, their songs are influenced by the likes of Portishead, Massive Attack, Sneaker Pimps and Radiohead, and yet maintaining an originality of its own.
The band started out when Bruno Correia, a popular rock dj from Rio, decided he wanted a second shot with a band. Having played an eletro-punk-extravaganza performance on a college festival with his close friend Bruno Fiuza, Correia decided they should form a new group, with a different outtake from the former. He then invited female vocalist Julia Vaz, who used to sing for pop rock bands and was incresingly interested in indie/art rock music.
Admittedly not a great guitarrist, Bruno Correia decided to take over the bass guitar, leaving the lead guitar to Felipe Fortes, guitarrist and vocalist of many underground alternative bands such as Lírio Branco and The Crunch. Fortes added subtle guitar textures to the band, also commiting himself as a backing vocalist and producer. Recently, Fiuza friendly parted ways with the band.
DJ6 is a band whose influences are not exactly how they sound like, since their originality surpasses any kind of genre or style. Singing in portuguese, english and french, they also assume the position of an international band, even if Rio de Janeiro's roots are in them - the main proof of that is that the name of the band comes from Dom João IV, king of Portugal, who came to Brazil when Napoleon conquered the country and who was also the father of first Brazilian emperor, Dom Pedro I.

Formada no Rio de Janeiro, a DJ6 é uma banda cujo estilo é no mínimo diferente do da maioria das bandas cariocas.
Com um som soturno e sofisticado, a banda tem um pé no trip hop do Portishead, Massive Attack e Sneaker Pimps, e outro no experimentação do Radiohead, Broken Social Scene e Sonic Youth, transpondo suas influências com originalidade e estilo próprio.
A banda começou quando Bruno C. sentiu uma necessidade "quase fisiológica" de formar uma banda que levasse a sério seu mote de que "rock tem que doer", mas que ainda assim fosse pop. Para isso, chamou Julia Vaz (que diziam ser ótima vocalista, mas a quem ainda não havia visto cantar), Felipe Fortes (conhecida figura do underground carioca, ex-guitarrista e vocalista da Lírio Branco, banda carioca que teve certo reconhecimento na cena underground da cidade) e Bruno Fiuza (ex-baterista da Perla Siete).
As primeiras músicas da banda apresentam sutis texturas nas guitarras, melodias fortes e dinâmicas pouco usuais, costuradas com letras em português, francês e inglês.
Fiuza amigavelmente deixou a banda no meio de 2006. Os três integrantes restantes lançaram o EP que está disponível no site no início de 2007, junto de seu novo baterista Fred Mendes, que também toca na banda Columbia.
DJ6 é uma banda ambiciosa que combina inevitavelmente suas raízes brasileiras aos gostos e influências internacionais de seus integrantes, numa fórmula que não se resume a nenhum estilo ou gênero dado.
