Sounds Likeclassical music picked on jazz too much, so rock came over and smacked it one but good

   About Deep 6 Holiday

Deep%206%20HolidayQuantcast

Deep 6 Holiday is the rock band love child of all classical and jazz musician geniuses ever to brush earlobes with it. At its current inception, its essential qualitative features (those that continue its intrinsic identity through time and space) include singer-songwriter- pianist-idealist-lover-fighter-spontaneous crier Tyler Azelton and bassist-string & wind arranger - lover-errand runner-and patience master John Graves. They bring people into the recording studio to make the music sound like it wasn't created off the budget of two bums who took out a second mortgage to fund it.

Here we will pause to explain a few things about the music on this page: One day, Tyler discovered a dusty old LP within the bowels of her father's record collection. It was called the Rite of Spring. Tyler was never the same again. She was only 12. Her friends were listening to Paula Abdul and New Kids on the Block. Needless to say, Tyler had a hard time making friends from that day on. Many a sleepover commenced with the words: "Here: Let me introduce you to a friend of mine. His name's Igor." And many a same sleepover ended abruptly with Tyler's friends running out the front door, screaming into the night. Tyler would chase after them. "Wait! Stop!" she would cry. "It's only a tritone! IT'S ONLY A TRITONE!!" Thus began her formal relationship with those truly extraordinary human beings the world would classify and herald as "geeks." She would be lost without their guidance and fine company, and is grateful to each one that made time to beat out polyrhythms or sing minor seconds with her during hot days on the playground.

And now that we have espoused the compositional derivations of the music, and hence laid the blame for any auditory shenanigans directly onto the firm --- VERY firm --- shoulders of Mr. Stravinsky, we can finally learn a thing or two about the fine musicianship and playing that is so prominent on the recordings.

Guitarist Ian Hattwick, drummer T.J. Troy, woodwind player Carol Chaikin, violist Claire Bergen, and violinist Yvette Holzwarth lent their chops-o-fury to these recordings. However, Ian and T.J. no longer associate themselves with the band. The power of the rock can only be withstood for so long. After a certain point, it became clear to Ian and T.J. that rocking in such a fashion was not only impacting their personal lives--it was just becoming downright dangerous. We sadly released them into distant seas, and bid them a fond "adieu." Their whereabouts are presently unknown to us. We heard some sort of rumor involving Martians or Sasquatch or something, but we won't get into it here.

Deep 6 Holiday is pleased to announce the release of their debut album, Awake at the Funeral.
