Sounds Like
Original, good writing, percussive, melodic, sonic. We play stripped down acoustic, dark, creepy alt country, indie rock electric, and a combo of all the above.
Deep Cricket Night is a four cornered, pearly moonlight serenade unfurled headlong into dawn with Beggars Banquet in your ride, Townes Van Zandt at your side, and an original melodic moan comprised of Lance Drake (gtr/vocals), Joseph Werner (percussion/drums/vocals), Ciaran Cooper (percussion/drums), Philip Alley (guitar/mandolin/vocals), Aaron Spelbring (bass/dobro/pedal steel), & Geraldine Haas (cello). Musically, they build their unique electric-acoustic sound with an instrumentation highlighted by the melodic lead guitar playing of Phil Alley and the lead vocal-lyrical strength of the band's primary songwriter, Lance Drake. The eclectic rhythm section of Joey Werner, Ciaran Cooper, and Aaron Spelbring round out the band's ability to bring it stripped down or amped up. Deep Cricket Night is a versatile band that can play any kind of venue or event and do so with a more stripped down sound and line up or with the full band. They mix indie rock, alt country, and Americana into a cohesive style all their own. They are a band that plays regionally and is working to expand their base throughout the Midwest further.

Illinois Entertainer Review of "Before Morning" by Patrick Conlan
June 1st, 2009
"Deep Cricket Night continues to strengthen its arsenal of amiable, intimate folk-pop songs with Before Morning. The lush arrangement of rich bass and warm cello provide a thick, strong foundation for Lance Drake’s clear, strong vocals in “Through The Arches.” Their glistening, sprightly interpretation of Echo And The Bunnymen’s “The Killing Moon” captures the sublime spirit of the original while allowing space for an infusion of original character."
Time Out Chicago Review May 2008
"Local act Deep Cricket Night opens a wormhole between the 1890s and 1990s, amplifying American roots for alternative rock radio. It often brings to mind Pearl Jam going jug band, but successfully blurs the line between garage rock and barn jam."
FROM WHISPERIN' & HOLLERIN' REVIEW (IRELAND) DEC 2008 BY C. NOSNIBOR
"The opener is something of a decoy, and paves the way for more fragile, melancholic acoustic guitar-led songs punctuated with some brooding cello that adds both atmosphere and depth that are actually quite affecting in places, and the vocals – vaguely reminiscent of The Black Angels – become less nigglesome after a degree of exposure. Track 4, 'Through the Arches' is particularly moody, and features a dissonant ascending riff that's really quite gripping."
Illinois Entertainer review 10/01/2007
"Deep Cricket Night's Honeymoon Tattoo is a concise document spelled out with low-slung moodiness and a delightfully crooked sense of melody. The slightest country twang encroaches upon the faint folk-rock rustle of "White Light Horses." The Middle-Eastern ambience present in the percussion and plucking on "Is This It?" is a surprising, even jarring juxtaposition, nestled next to the keening cello in "Oh Yeah." Lance Drake's withering vocals cut through the mix with the right touch of sawn-edge rawness, giving the album an emotional foundation and sonic anchor."
