"Not only does he have a hammer, he uses it. Cecil’s music brims with evocative melody and emotion, harmony and a certain honesty and earthiness. Mesmerizing strands of steely independent punk conviction and a lyrical underpinning of elliptical, folk-rock imperative."
-Portland Center Stage
"Monuments flutters in the open air between enjoyable and perfect for
34 straight minutes. It sounds alternatingly like a big-budget psychedelic-rock
production from the late ’60s and a neo-folk gem. It sounds, most of all,
like a labor of true love, making its imperfections real easy to overlook.
As compelling as anything in recent memory."
-Casey Jarman, Willamette Week
"If the Northwest has its own musical sound, it’s exemplified on Leviethan
Cecil’s 2007 release, Monuments in Memory of Nothing So Far. It’s vintage
indie-rock made modern. The lyrics have a dreamlike quality, beautiful and
deep. Monuments gets a place in my Top 10 CDs of 2007."
-Amy Atkins, Boise Weekly
"The kind of lo-fi bedroom pop the Northwest seems to have perfected,
with more than enough twists and turns to keep things lively and interesting.
Monuments is a beguiling look at a talented musician, not to mention a lovely
album in its own right."
-Barbara Mitchell, Portland Tribune
Hi Leviethan, we dig your tunes! low-fi from Boise, ID. will be in Portland this Friday April 18th for two shows! We'll be on 1450am KPSU radio/ streaming www. kpsu. org at 6pm and the Red Room on NE 82nd for a free show at 9pm! Hope you can check us out! :)
i'm back, and i hear you need some shearing. . . . (sheering?) i should be in front of my books soon, my mom has them for now, but I'll give a call today or tomorrow when I have them. love the songs!
They can rent a backhoe and dump that shit straight into large intestine if they'd like. I've eaten enough MRE's that I think my gut can handle a little plutonium. Shiiiite.
Thanks for being our friend. We can't wait to have you play First Thursday for us. Let us know if you want tickets to Sometimes a Great Notion afterward.
Note: Forwarded from FRANK's MOST RECENT blog, for LEVI or RESIDENT.
Yes, good to hear from you too, LEVI or RESIDENT. I'm glad that you liked the blog, LEVI. I apprecaite your POSITIVE comments about my MOST RECENT blog. Soon I will call you up to tell you what a great GUY I think you are. If you have any more questions/concerns/accolades/kudos you'd like to post for my MOST RECENT blog, feel free to do so. Keep up the good work LEVI and have fun where you live in PORTLAND, OREGON.
Ewwww... a girl said she loved you on your MySpace page. That is so gay.
Also, I'm sending you something for post-Christmas. It's actually some music I think you'll like. Have you ever heard of "Nickelback" (NB)or "Three Doors Down"? (TDD)
TDD has this fucking awesome song called "Citizen Soldier" that plays before movies and reminds people that the National Guard is helpful. You can download it free off the "web" which is so sweet anyway, but I've put it on a "burned" CD for you.
One time at Bumbershoot I was hanging out in the men's bathroom pretending to pee and picking up pieces of paper from neighboring stalls when I heard these two guys going over the line-up.
This one was like all, "So what's next, who should we check out?"
And his friend is all like, "Oh, sweet, Nickelback!"
Then the first guy says, "Nickelback!? Awesome- hard-core punk content!"
Seriously, word for word.
Anyway, I am sending you something so keep your eyes on your male-box.
Are you going to be ther for New Year's Eve homeskizzle? If so, you gots to come to the NYE party up at the place. It's ALWAYS a blast (I got in a brawl at one of them.) But you already know all this. Anyway, just make sure you come through the side door, the one designated for the help, Catholics, Jews, Communist musicians, Albanians and the like. Maybe I'll let you fetch me drinks in front of people. But maybe not.
God damn you look good. I found a copy of Team America in the pawn shop, bought it, then watched it in your honor. So, going back to IF for Christmas? Cool, see you there.
Hello. Thank yuo for the show. It was really great. Your music is cool. I liked when you sang "Highest Power," both the G>G. Allenn cover and the one about Jesus. Come back to Moscow some time and play more.
