The gentlemen of De Facto. Heavy cats. Players de musica.
First you got Omar Rodriguez and Cedric Bixler from At The Drive-In. Only now the fellows are showing their respective other sides what with Omar handling deepest bass and Cedric bringin' the dopest one-drop drum beats what for ya to get yer noggin noddin'.
Add one straight-up Texas homeboy name of Jeremy Ward on vocals and effects. And effects. And effects.
Then finally and crucially, keyboardist extraordinaire Isaiah "Ikey" Owens (L.A. cat with connections to the Sublime/Long Beach Dub All Stars teams).
Influences
Gordian Knot, Lee Perry and the Dr. Alimantado, Tangent, Ozric Tentacles, Oysterhead
This group has made a triple-deep true dub LP. In the long tradition of classic platters by Augustus Pablo, Scientist, King Tubby, and of course Scratch, De Facto here issues a serious contender. This ain't no joke : no ironic / super-self-aware / look-how-clever-we-are-and-what-we're-referencing type of bullshit here. Real music, real dub for those who know what the real shit sounds like.
Cedric Bixler, Omar Rodriguez and Jeremy Ward started De Facto in El Paso, TX in the mid-nineties. They relocated to Long Beach, CA in 2000 and were joined by keyboardist Ikey Owens. They've only played a few shows in the US but they toured Europe twice in 2000 and 2001.
"Légende du Scorpion à Quatre Queues" was recorded in Long Beach, CA, El Paso, TX and live in Europe in 2000 and 2001.
Jeremy Ward's death in May 2003 has left a question mark on the future of the band.
