Defective Records was formed in early 1994 by Dan Nigrin and Bump Stadelman in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Long time dance music DJ's, they created the label with the sole purpose of releasing their own musical creations as Glitch; however, it soon became apparent to them that Baltimore needed its own electronic music label, to release the growing quantity of excellent material being created there.
Before long, the label had outgrown its humble beginnings, and had signed on talented artists from the rest of the USA, and now, from the rest of the world. Defective stimulated others in Baltimore to follow in their footsteps, and the city now is home to several top notch electronic music labels, in addition to having a burgeoning club music scene. Baltimore itself could no longer contain Defective after a while, and so the label now maintains offices both in Baltimore and in Boston.
From the start, Defective hasn't supported one genre of electronic music. We're not trance, not acid, not hardcore, not trip-hop, not IDM, not techno, not ambient, not industrial, not jungle. We're all of those, and more. We release music that we think is different, exciting, and that catches our ear.

Defective loves to receive your demos, so please feel free to send them to our A&R Department for consideration at our A&R address:
Defective Records / A&R
19 Colonial Rd
Needham, MA 02492
USA
Our preferred format is CD, but any other standard format is acceptable. Please don't send too much material to begin with - 3 or 4 of your best tracks is a good start.
Unfortunately, we are not able to reply individually to everyone who submits music to us, but if you provide an e-mail address we will usually get back to you with some sort of feedback.
We can NOT currently accept demos by email (MP3, WAV, AIFF or any other attachment). Please do not submit demos in this way - they will be automatically deleted without being heard.
