Define Beautiful is a local band from Topeka, KS. The band is an eclectic mix of Christian rock, Emo, and Pop Punk. The band consists of the echoing voice and guitar of Jeremy Hall, the licks of guitarist Ray Toyne, and is completed with the combination of brothers Ben and Josiah Engstrom who keep the funk and rhythm steady with the bass and drums, respectively.
The boys of Define Beautiful are Topeka-raised with a following based in the Topeka scene. They draw influence from bands ranging from Anberlin to Switchfoot and musicians like John Mayer and Andy McKee as well as their largest influence, God. Musically, they draw influences from funk, emo, dance, and pop punk reminiscent of bands who found fame in the early 2000’s like Jimmy Eat World and New Found Glory. Their music pulls at your heartstrings while making your feet tap along.
To know the band more personally, Jeremy is all about the emo, "music is emotion". He doesn't like it when people talk in the third person. Ray is a shredder and rockin out for a crowd and for the troops is his destiny. Ben is a funky dude. Not that he smells bad but he keeps it funky on the Bass. Josiah is one goofy dude that likes to rock. He enjoys a nice pair of slacks and an ice cold glass of Diet Pepsi. They are just four guys trying to rock out and spread some happiness.
Their debut EP is a seven song album featuring five original songs and two additional versions of one song. The album is a mixture of melancholy love songs to upbeat dance songs with positive messages. Their music covers topics from love to addiction while trying to keep focused on their strong faith. The lyrics speak to believers and non-believers in a romantic and love-stricken way. The album is available for purchase on Amazon, Rhapsody, and iTunes.
