Degu is the collaboration of lovers. While most relationships “make beautiful music together,” Alana McDonald and Jonathan Higley actually do. Alana provides warm, rich, emotive vocals and massive, 90s inspired guitar themes. Jonathan produces, bringing drums, synthesis, backing vocals, and electro tweaking ruffness. With a refined electronic sound that craftily blends bright 80s synthesis, dark lilting modern overtones, slutty rock drums, and thoughtful lyrics – Degu is truly a sound to savor.
Since forming in a basement studio in Salt Lake City in late 2005, Degu has released a debut EP, Vent, Pump, & Fist and formed a live act. The band's latest album, their first full length LP, two years in the making, Seven and a Half, refines their sound and proves to redefine conceptions of what electro rock can be. With standout tracks like “Syncos,” “Cassanova,” and “Blowback,” Degu provides an eclectic album that spans minimal downtempo electronic to heafty throbbing desert rock. Fresh faces the scene, it's easy to spot that they will be a great influence and a welcomed breath of fresh air on the vast modern music landscape. Seven and a Half is due out late April 2008.
Degu Live is: Aaron Evans, Tanner McDonald, and Derek Kennet
BRAVA!!! You've done very well. Lana your voice has so much potential, I can only hear it getting stronger over time, pretty soon you'll have a signature sound. Please, keep working, keep makin music for us :)
New tunes is lovely. Perhaps we can arrange an album for album trade. Matt says ours is nearly almost done. I put the song Return From Volans up on the ol' myspace this morning though. Have a listen, and think of Alpha Centauri.
I quite like Syncos with the vocals on it. And you were right, Cassanova is in fact very different from how it started. I likey. Keep up the hard work, let me know when you have more exciting times!
