Advantages to Moving a Structure:
*LANDFILL SPACE
These structures would otherwise be demolished and hauled to landfills. With an average structure consuming about 100 cubic yards of landfill space, 5 million cubic yards of landfill space is saved!
*TREES
With the average structure using about 5,000 board feet of lumber, and 100 board feet of lumber per tree, about 2,500,000 trees are saved per year through recycling structures.
*LOW COST HOUSING & TAX BASE
Rather than being demolished and removed from the tax rolls, the average recycled structure is sold to first time home buyers. Because many recycled houses are available at below normal market costs, many of the buyers are able to build a 'sweat equity' by refurbishing these structures themselves.

Deitz House Moving Engineers, Inc. is a family owned and operated business.
Started in 1945 by Walter Deitz, it has been continuously owned and operated by members of the Deitz family. Currently, second generation mover Richard Deitz and third generation mover Daniel Deitz, engineer, personally supervise and execute all jobs performed by Deitz House Moving Engineers, Inc. Together, they team to provide over 90 years of "on the job" experience. This experience allows our company a unique insight into unusual, unique or fragile structures.

One Million Nine Hundred Pound Solid Brick Building
This Building was moved on June 21, 2006. Updated pictures of this move and more coming soon!
STEP 1: This building is constructed of solid brick. Its' dimensions are 102 feet long by 42 feet wide. This picture was taken shortly after it was jacked up twenty four inches above its' foundation.
STEP 2: The man in the picture is cutting the foundation with a special chainsaw for cutting concrete. Steel beams will be installed in these holes.
STEP 3: The large blue objects pictured on the left hand side of the photo are the steel support beams which will be inserted under the building. Two beams will be used to create the basis for supporting the building.
STEP 4: The second layer of steel is being installed. In total, 25 beams will be inserted on this layer. Over 200,000 pounds of steel beams will be used to support the building.
STEP 5: The building has been elevated 24 inches. The stacks of wooden blocks are supporting the layers of steel which are supporting the building. Individual rubber tired trailers called dollies are being inserted and will provide the means of supporting the building while it is moved.
